Towing Equipment Suggestions

Hi All,
I have a 2005 Jayco Grayhawk and a 1994 Jeep Wrangler. Looking for suggestions of what towbar and equipment I need to tow Jeep. Thanks in advance.

In the beginning I towed my YJ using a fixed harbor freight bar. Worked fine for such a light vehicle, but there are better (more expensive) tow bars out there.

For "base plates" I just replaced the front spring shackles on the Jeep with Day Star tow shackles. The pins never worked quite right, and that's something I'm currently working on, so I ended up using different pins. The bonus here is that the bushings are greaseable, and they're OEM length so they don't mess with the Jeep's steering or suspension geometry.

I was a bad boy and didn't use a brake in the beginning, but now I have a Blue Ox brake.

For wiring, I spliced in a standard 4-way plug into the existing tail light wiring near the driver's seat down in the rocker panel. Basically it takes a standard 4-way flat plug from the front and you can plug it into the Jeep's wiring using (in my case home made) splitter. I just unplug the wires coming from the Jeep's harness and plug in my added wire which creates a direct connection from the tow vehicle's 4-way flat trailer plug to the tail lights on the Jeep.

In the beginning, I used chains that I literally fed THROUGH the frame for safety chains. But when I outfitted my WK2 (Grand Cherokee) I got cables, so now I use those instead.

Good news is the YJ is SUPER easy to tow. Just put the TC in neutral, transmission in 5th and you're good to go. It's slightly different for an automatic; I can't remember if you put the trans in Park or Drive...

ETA: And you need to leave the key in the ignition so the steering doesn't lock. One position "forward" from the position where you can remove the key. Keeps the 12V off, but allows the steering wheel to move.
