Towing performance

Our 2000 3230 is built on the Ford E450 chassis with the 6.8 V-10. It has a GVWR of 14,050, and a GCWR of 17,550. With this large a coach, most of the GVWR is taken up with the rig and our relatively minimal gear.

We will likely be setting it up for a toad this year. Currently have a 2010 Honda Fit which would work and is fairly light.

My question is: does anyone have experience towing with this chassis at close to the GCWR? For other reasons, I am playing with ideas about a different (heavier) toad, but don't want to end up with an impractical setup if I push the weight up toward the max.

Thanks!

My 31FS is in the same boat, heavy without much added. I am wondering how people are pulling toads. The coach has power and the transmission is strong, however it just doesnt seem like a good idea, but people are doing it.

I have nearly the same rig (as far as numbers go) as you and I tow a 2007 Honda CRV that weighs 3500 lbs. No problems at all including 3 months to and around Alaska.

The sticker on my Greyhawk 31SS says it weighed 12,151 when left the factory, with full fuel and propane, no water, and excluding dealer installed options. The only dealer option was a slide cover that can't weigh more than 50#, and a spare tire that is probably 75#.
I have weighed everything I put on board and still well within the 14,500# GVW. I pull a toad that weighs about 3,500# and don't notice any difference in mileage, but it really more fun to drive with the vehicle in tow.

Our niece is looking for a class C to pull a horse trailer with 3 horses. Anyone have any experience with pulling that kind of weight?

Have her look at the Super C homes, like the Seneca. Diesel powered and able to pull 8-10K lbs, depending on the chassis.
