Towing recommendations

Hi all, we are picking up our new Seneca 37HJ next Thursday. I am going to be towing A 2015 Jeep Wrangler JK. Looking at the Blue Ox and the Air Force One braking system. Anyone have this set up or another set up that may be better recommended? Thanks!

Why Air Force One?

For our Jeep Grand Cherokee we have the RoadMaster Sterling and Invisbrake setup. No separate air tank installation required.

At the dealer’s recommendation, we had the Blue Ox baseplate and tow
bar and the Stay and Play braking system.

We use a blue ox baseplate with a Ready Brute Elite braking system. No complaints so far.

I’m using Demco base plate and tow bar and a RVI 2 brake unit. Complete hook up in less than five minutes.
I like the portable brake and have used it while towing my Jeep with my truck.

RVI Brake is not an air brake system.

InvisiBrake is not an air brake system. It is however a stay in p[lace system and works extremely well with the Accolade/Seneca and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

There are a bunch of different systems.

Air brake systems that use the air from the coach.

Portable units like rvi and patriot.

Wire driven from tow bar

And many more.

Just depends on what level of interaction you want and how many vehicles you what to able to tow.

We went with the rvi as I can tow my truck or my jeep as i decide. Other systems are dedicated to the vehicle. Do.e of the other system once installed you only have to hook up your tow bar and drive. With the portable unit you have to iij install and set up the box each time. Less then two minutes in the jeep.

Demco baseplate and towbar with Invisibrake on our Wrangler JLU and formerly on our Nissan Xterra. Haven't had the Wrangler out yet, but it should pull equally well as the Xterra, given the weight is virtually the same. Very quick and easy hookup; installation wasn't too bad, but is a bit fiddly.

For braking on our 2018 Silverado or our 2016 Traverse, we use a Roadmaster 9700. Nothing permanent on the floor. Simple power wire and brake actuation wire and that's all. Have been using it since Fall of 2015 and it works great. Sent in last Winter to have the software updated and everything checked out. Came back looking like a brand new unit.

Highly recommend. And that 2018 Silverado is loaded, more like a box trailer than a pickup.

With all of the above being said, I have had a couple of occasions where the brake unit inadvertently had a fault. And fortunately the RVI will warn you with an audible and visual alert so you can stop and correct the issue. But I have to say I noticed NO difference in the braking of the Seneca with or without the aux brake. I know the system works because I have tested the auxiliary braking and you can feel the Jeep trying to stop the RV.

I know of people towing Jeeps with no auxiliary brakes, which is illegal in most states. I would never tow without the brake unit but mostly because of liability issues.
