Transmission fluid temperature

For those who have added a gauge to monitor the transmission fluid temperature, what temperature are you seeing in summer driving?
Mine is usually running at 200F, or a few degrees more, driving on the interstate.

I'm not trying to open a can of worms here, or start a debate on what trans temps are OK or not.... I'm just asking what fluid temperatures you are seeing.

I recognize you are in the Class C forum, but for anyone else looking, my F150 will occasionally climb to 206 which the dealer said was fine. Most of the time it sits at 198 to 200.

For reference: My Dodge Durango (hemi) hovers around 205 degrees when I am towing a 3500lb trailer.

I am also driving a pickup. I added a Mag-Hytec aluminum trans pan ( 2 extra quarts ), it runs 180 to 190 flat land and will get north of 200 If I'm pulling a hard hill.

The Duramax Allison always ran around 200F and a few degrees higher pulling mountains. The Greyhawk is also around 200F and does not seem to climb much on hills with the Jeep behind.

If you have the Ford Triton V-10 it should be mated to Fords 6R140 transmission, one of the most reliable transmissions ever built. This transmission has an internal thermostat to control cooling and is designed to run hotter.

200F is normal these days. If you start seeing 235, you should be backing off the throttle, over 245F I would be pulling over to let things cool down. I think at 265F is when you'll get a warning that the transmission is overheating.

My 2011 Ram 1500 Hemi transmission levels out at around 130°F when towing my 26BH. Going up very long grades I've seen it hit 220° or so, but it drops fairly quickly on the downgrade.

I always keep the 6 speed transmission in 4th when towing. The torque converter stays locked up most of the time that way. It will disengage going up medium grades, and I downshift manually when approaching the big hills/passes. My goal is to keep the torque converter locked up as much as possible, and to prevent the transmission from downshifting. Doing that keeps my transmission nice and cool, which will extend the fluid life and, I hope, the life of the transmission.

It has almost 150k miles on it and it still works perfectly.

Mine runs 200 to 210. I tested it with my spare tire mounted out front on a front hitch receiver and without the spare. I thought the spare out there might block airflow to the trans cooler and radiator. I couldn't tell any difference in engine coolant or trans temps with or without the spare tire out there.

Mine runs similar to what you stated. Does anyone know where the transmission fluid temperature sensor is located? I ask as perhaps it is in\on the return fluid line (or trans fluid inlet line) which goes through the radiator and therefore "normally" runs a similar temp as the engine coolant runs. ~CA

I do watch the trans temp while towing. Runs 185º-193º in the summer on the interstate, 63 mph, usually stays in 6th while pulling the 6,500 lb TT.

In the Ford 6R140, the sensor is in the valve body. You have to remove the pan and filter to service it.

More particular to my question than the actual location of the sensor is if the temperature sensor is measuring the returning and already cooled transmission fluid by the radiator and therefore reading a cooler temp, or would it be measuring the hotter fluid destined to leave the transmission and flow into the cooler? I suppose it doesn't really matter, just that my thought was that I noticed on mine that it seems to always be close to the engine coolant temperature.

Also, just as a thought to share, I am using the Android OBDII Fusion app that pulls the temp from the OBDII port via bluetooth into my android based radio (also works with Android phones, tablets). There are hundreds if not thousands of data points the OBDII computer has that can be viewed via the OBDFusion app.

Yes. For the trans temperature to show on the Scangauge, I had to enter specific access codes.

I can't say what my 15 Silverado was towing at with the stock trans pan on it. At 1000 miles I dumped the engine oil and filter and changed them to synthetic, pulled the rear diff cover off and cleaned the inside and changed that to synthetic, later added an AAM finned rear diff cover, and the trans I dumped the trans fluid, changed BOTH filters, installed a Mag Hytec double deep trans pan and went full synthetic trans fluid. Pulling my Northpoint, around 16k, at 72, 73mph in lower to mid 90' outside itll see trans temps right about 180. Running with my buddy that has a 16 Silverado and he pulls a Jayco 29.5, little shorter and a bit lighter and his trans temps at the same time, same road, same speed, were all of 25* higher than mine and his was all stock.
