Previous owner of my former Pinnacle traveled with full FW tank and one of straps broke causing end of tank to fall out from between channel frame. There is no need to travel with full
FW tank for long distance. Plenty of places to stop and get water closer to final destination. I always carry minimum of maybe 20-25 gallons for emergencies.

Like others, we carry a few gallons, but we strive to have all tanks empty in order to reduce weight. We do check ahead to make sure we can fill up close to our destination however.

Water weight

Just remember 60 gallons of water weighs about 500 pounds.

Most RV's Trailers, spill ls lot of water while travelling, on corners. I lose a third of my water when it is full on leaving.

I used to but due to the over flow lines I always lost a good chunk of the water while traveling and didn't like the idea of block the lines so stopped. Less weight as well.

We do quite a bit of camping in state parks where there is no water at the site. We will carry full fresh water tank on our Pinnacle in this case. I did the same with our TT for 14 years. I learned the first time at a state park the water pressure is not always regulated at there filling station and I got more water on me than in the tank. The other advantage to carrying my own water is I don't have to sit in line at the campground water filling station. It takes a long time to wait for this rigs with 60-80 gallon FW tanks to fill. There are several threads on here about losing water through the overflow hose while travelling. There are some great pics of mods for putting shutoff valves on the overflow hose. I personally went with the cheap mode of using clamp on the hose while traveling. I don't lose any water.

Guess I'm lucky. I've never have lost any water on my last 3 travel trailers. My current trailer has the standard outside gravity fill with the little screen vent as part of the assembly, as well as a valve in the docking station to fill when the hose is connected to outside water. It's full when I leave and still full when I get to my destination.

We've always filled our fresh water tank before leaving. It allows us to use our good water and we still filter it going in but is also so much easier to do it from home rather than wait inline to use the parks water. It also allows us to use the bathroom facilities during the trip if needed. The other holding tanks are always empty when we start out. Our fresh water tank in only 22 gallons and sits right over the axial.

How big is the water tank on a 27u? 3 days is not to bad if your not near water to resupply. We have a 70gal tank and a 30 gal baffle I fill, we've been off grid for as long as a month.
I always carry some water..... You never know!
Safe travels!

RPR, you must have 'light water' where you are from. At 70 degrees all I have ever heard of is 8.32/8.33/8.34 pounds per gallon. That is from my 40 years in the water business.

I find that the ride is much better with at least half a tank of water on board.

I always travel 1/2 to 2/3. I would fill it but when I do, I get the opening effect and loose 1/2 a tank! I know others will say put a shutoff valve, run a line this way etc.., it doesn’t bother me. I have 2,900 CCC in my Redhawk, my tank is right behind drivers seat. I’m always way under my front axel rating.

Always travel full of water. Done it for 30 years. Often prevented bad surprises when campgrounds have suddenly had water issues or the water was terrible.

When I plan on boondocking, i will have the h2o tank about 1/3 full. I carry a 6 gallon jug with me and fill the remaining as needed. Water is heavy and most camping areas will have a community spigot

I'm in the travel empty camp. I only carry fresh water when I know there's no water at my destination. Grey and black tanks are always empty when traveling. I figure pulling less weight isn't usually a bad thing...

When needed I run with dual 68 gallon FW tanks on my jayco toy hauler. However I added two 3/16"x4 inch straps to each tank and through bolted them instead of just the self tapers in the factory straps

Water weight

I see lots of discussion on here about how much water weighs and carrying capacity. Here is the sticker from my unit (located both on the door and next to the driver's seat).

I figure an RV would be designed to carry a full tank of FW. If not what would be the point of having any given size tank if you can't fill it. I fill mine till it comes out the over flow. Never a problem.
