Trim That is Screw Cover?

Hello! Newbie here. I have a 2015 Jayco Redhawk. There is a strip of rubber like trim on the sides of the RV that I'm told is screw cover? It looks like it has mold underneath this trim. Does anyone know if this in fact screw cover and where I can purchase replacement?

Thanks!

Watch these videos. The vinyl trim cover should be replaced at least every 2 years. Amazon sells different sizes and colors. Yours is probably 1 inch. Very easy to do.

One hint...when replacing the vinyl insert let it sit in the hot sun to warm up. Makes it much easier to work with. Also check for loose or missing screws.

I purchased a 100' roll last year and it has been on a number of trips. It's still rolled up in the box in the camper, but I have removed old ones in the past and it's easy to replace, it just snaps in. Don't cut it to short as mine shrinks with the weather changes. Hopefully the new stuff will be a better quality but I don't yet.

Because if it isn’t protected from the sun it will dry out, possibly shrink, and become brittle. If you can tap it with your finger and don’t hear it “click”, it’s due for replacement. Then it’s prone to leak water and and dirt. Plus, it’s a good time to check for loose and missing screws.

The reason I purchased a 100' roll is I see some weathering on the rows between the roof and sides on both sides. My rig is 14 years old and is under a shed when at home so the sun damage is minimal but the material is not pliable and needs to be changed. Any left over will be parceled out until it's gone.

My rig is in great shape and as of this minute we plan to use it for a few more years before getting out of rving. That will be a sad day for us both. We will likely sell the whole thing when done.

I'm now told this is a trim gard, body side molding, not a screw cover. Runs down both sides of my RV about half way down the body. Not sure where to obtain some but will call Jayco.

Can you post a photo?? Yours isn’t similar to the trim in the video? I’m a bit confused?

Our trailer is going on 8 years old, and in great shape. My wife and I are going on 81 years old and starting to slow down. Not sure which is going to wear out first.

We have given thought to when the good times will end, but right now as long as we can fill the gas tank, hook and unhook the trailer, we intend to keep on trucking. Our goal is one RV trip a month, leaving for Ely, NV on Wednesday, Colorado next month, Good Lord willing.

Here is what we have. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=rv+rubber...-refreshed_8_9

It comes in colors and sizes. Amazon calls it rubber trim but it also functions as a cosmetic cover for the seam screws.

I just turned 82 and still want to keep going. I hope to go as long as I am able to look forward to it and we have our health.

My fil knew when it was time to quit and it was much earlier than me so there are so many things to consider. We are up to it for now!

All of you are an inspiration for me and the group. I wish you both and your spouses safe travels and much more time on the road, doing what you love to do. I can only hope that one day I can be your age and still getting out there with the camper.

Having the same problem on 2015 Jayco redhawk

I'm having the same problem on my redhawk. I will try and link a picture. All the videos and links that I looked at that where sent are not what I think you are talking about. If you find a solution I would be interested in knowing how to fix it also.

After our trim got destroyed in a hail storm, I removed what was left of it then removed every screw along the seam to check for rust, filled screw hole with caulk, replaced screw and covered head with caulk then installed new trim over the seam. Easy to do, just takes time and make sure you put the trim in outside out; I found that inside out does not work well. As others have pointed out, it's readily available; look for good quality rather than cheap price. I'm guessing you get what you pay for.

Just something else I learned from my previous Keystone RV....those screws in the trim should've had silicon put in the hole first and more important...along the top edge of that molding/trim where the roof membrane meets that trim has to be sealed well! Water did penetrate behind that trim and thru the screw holes enough to cause wallpaper bubbling. My Jayco looks good in that regard...one of the first things I checked when inspecting my roof.
