TV Antenna switch mod

One of my big annoyances with my Seneca 37TS was the location of the TV Antenna booster switch, which is in the AV cubby hole in the upper bunk area. I had to put bunk cushion in place, set and climb that uncomfortable ladder and reach into the dark crowded cubby to find the tiny button on the booster plate. And of course, no matter what position the booster was in, the next campground was the opposite

Solution: I pulled the plate off and cut the grey 12 volt wire and added a remote toggle switch.

What a PIA to work in that area! I think of all the area I have explored so far, this is the sloppiest with the cables and wires just jammed in. At least it's done.

Ps I really wish this app didn't flip my photos

Great Mod! I am in a fifth wheel but have to get down on my knees and reach way in the back of a cabinet to operate mine.

If you are talking about the ANTENNA WALL PLATE unit the 12VDC cable slips onto a spade connector. The Booster Amplifier PUSH BUTTON switch is on the wall plate...

Adding a switch in the 12VDC line will not turn on the booster amp up inside the the roof mounted bat wing antenna. One has to push the button on the WALL PLATE panel.

Now if you are going to move the Antenna Wall Plate to a different location to get to the front panel easier you will be fine... You will have to extend the three Rg cables as well...

If I am referring to a completely different Antenna Wall Plate Control unit please disregard all of the above...

I know that the 12v is on the coax powering the head amp. Sounds different the way he describes it. I'll look at it when I get home.

By cutting the 12 volt supply to the booster before the push button switch I am turning the booster on and off, the same as if I were pushing the plate button on the plate. This was verified by King, the maker of the system and by testing after the mod. My switch turns the light on and off as well as letting me watch over air the TV with the switch on. When I toggle off I lose the signal.

The placement of the switch does wonder what Jayco was thinking. It is a PITA but I can reach in bare feet on passenger chair...being tall helps sometimes.

I've never taken mine apart (not sure why as I've had everything else apart in my camper), but I thought the switch did more that just power the amp - doesn't it also switch the inputs? Seems like it should else the un-powered antenna would load down the CATV signal.

Mark great idea! I always thought what a pain to get up in there without slipping and falling! I'll put this one on the short list of must do's.

Speaking of wire nightmares have you looked under bed and headboard area?

regards

I tested my switch and it turned the antenna booster on and off. Worked great.

I am now at the first CG with CATV. And sure enough, the CATV does not work

My switch controls power to the antenna booster but for some reason when the button on the plate is depressed the CATV signal does not get through even with my added switch in the off position. And of course I learn this on day 3 of my 3 month journey.

To be continued.

I was thinking the same thing, that besides turning the 12V on/off to the roof antenna, that it also switched between the outside input and the roof antenna inputs. But I've never metered one to make sure.
