Up On The Roof

The Drifters, '62. But about today, I got up on the roof and I like what I found. To remind readers, ours is a 2002 wide body Designer model K 3230 that was sitting under a tree for the past eight years. I got it titled and registered, all the dirt and lichen cleaned off, the engine running, etc, etc etc. Several questions came up. I haven't enrolled the awning yet as I expect trouble. My expectations were met. I can see much of the stitching that captures the bolt rope along the top edge of the awning is badly oxidized. Most likely the thread is polyester. Polyester is what sail makers use because it last longest in the sun light. I wonder if there's an ultra high bond exterior tape I could run down the seam that would hold. I can see both sides of the seam and there's amply room to apply the tape. I've been through awnings blowing apart, taking the frame apart, taking the canvas to a canvas maker, putting it all back together, OY! Tape would be nice. Next thing is the roof it's self. Lots and lots of dirt but no leaks. I see many cracks and peels that are begging for Dicor and they will soon be addressed. But the rest of the roof. It's rubber, it's eighteen years old should I coat it. And if yes with what.

Thanks in advance and look forward to hearing from you guys.

Nice rig. I looked it up online.

Here are some tape selections from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=awning+ta...b_sb_ss_i_2_11

There is an Awning Repair Tape (Clear) that you may want to use. As to the roof use Eternabond Tape over the Dicor.

Clear awning tape is a good choice.

X2, on the eternabond over the dicor. Its a one time fix. Just do not stretch it.

As for a coating. Nothing is really needed. Wash with spic and span or a good dish soap. Some people like to wipe 303 over the roof. I have never done it.

After 18 years you may see some of the white topcoat weathering off the roof material and the black under it showing in large areas. I would do some reading about different options in that case if the roof material is still adhering to the wood underneath.

When this ol' world starts getting me down.
And people are just too much for me to face.
I climb way up to the top of the stairs
and all my cares just drift right into space!

Great now it's stuck in my head.

Drifters!!!!!!!

Oh, when the sun beats down and burns the tar up on the roof
And your shoes get so hot you wish your tired feet were fire proof
Under the boardwalk, down by the sea, yeah
On a blanket with my baby is where I'll be!
