Wall outlet for entertainment system

Long time listener first time caller. have 2008 Greyhawk on E450 chassis. The outlet for the tv and dvd system which is located in a small cabinet under where the tv sits & above the a drawer. The outlet looks normal on the outside, but on the opposite side wire the wires connect is a small 12v relay also there. Does anyone know the function & how to test? Thanks in advance.

This is an ignition cut out switch to prevent the tv from playing while the vehicle is in motion. While most of the outlets in your rv work only when plugged in or on a generator some outlets are powered via an inverter if installed. To eliminate distracted driving they put a cut out solenoid in to prevent the outlet from working. Many people simply replace the outlet or cut the wire to allow the outlet to be on. The solenoid is powered via the ignition switch and is 12v. The electricians in the group will have to tell you how to test it.

The way to test is turn on the Inverter and the TV and then turn on the ignition key, the TV should go off.

As RVermont said many cut the 12v wire or just rewired the outlet so it works all the time so the kids could watch DVDs while on the road.
