Wally Satellite Receiver
We recently switched to Dish so that we could use their Wally Tailgater in our 2016 Greyhawk. It works fabulously when we run the coax from the Tailgater thru the front door and into the receiver, but when I screw the coax into the receptacle in the outdoor cable hookup (in the cargo compartment) it cannot detect a signal. I’m sure I’m not hooking something up correctly. What coax do I put into the back of the receiver?

What does your wall plate look like behind the TV?

It looks like you are prewired for a roof top sat antenna with 2 LNBs. Depending on the location you may need to come up with one more input and run a direct line to this plate. The coax that you have plugged in is for your over the air antenna and cable. This will not work for sat because there are splitters.

Oh, wow! Thank you for your quick response! That might be beyond this 65 y/o lady’s capabilities! I couldn’t even figure out how to stick the coax down through the panel in the wall and get it to come out the bottom somewhere, lol!

One other option but you need to be handy or know someone who is. You can mod your wall plate and use the existing outside connection.

Make sure that the little green light in your bottom pic is off when you are using the coax from the outside box. There is a small push button next to the light to turn it on and off. This button switches the coax feed between the rooftop antenna and whatever is connected to the outside box. If the light is on, it takes the signal from your rooftop and will not see your signal from the dish.

This is true for a cable feed, but light on or off it will not pass the sat signal.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't stop and think about the differences between cable/antenna vs satellite. But you're right, the wall plate mod would seem like the simplest way to go.

I have been fighting this for a couple of years now, so the next time I go out I will go in the back of where my tv is at and take off that plate and hookup the cable from the receiver to the cable coming in the back, when I talk to CS the lady told me that sat don't like Spittler so you need to bypass that.

Guys and Gals,
This does work. I've done it on 2 trailers and a Seneca 37FS. Its all inside work behind and next to the Booster plate. Once you understand the satellite doesn't like the wiring through the Booster, it gets easier.

I am on my #3 Class “C” in the last 5 years currently 2018 Greyhawk and I still find it easier to run satellite cable through passenger window than fool with inside hook ups .....

I had to have the floor replaced in my Alante and when they pulled a slide out, they got the wiring for the front TV too tight and it pulled the connector off the coax. Took me about 20 hours total to run that gremlin down.

If you go to the "Manuals" section above and to the "Misc" section there is a schematic for the Greyhawk wiring and cabling that I posted that is from Jayco. The last two pages give some options for wiring for a Tailgator but it would work for any outside sat dish.
