Was hoping to be a Seneca owner today but not going to happen

My wife and I looked at a used Seneca and got to drive it. I loved it - could not believe how well it handled.
But we couldn't agree on a price and my wife is still hesitant about getting a non-commercial Class B license. Looked at Class A's. She really wants a Class A with GVW <26,001# so she and the rest of the family can drive it legally.
Looks like it won't happen - my loss.

I don't know what state you live in but normally you don't need any special license to drive any type of rv. Call your DMV and ask.

Unfortunately, our state does as do many others as I have learned researching this for several weeks.

Bummer, if you do most of your travels outside of Maryland, you might make it work. While Maryland requires the A/B for their residents, most states around you don't and even the ones that do require usually allow non residents to transit using a class d license.

Maybe you can get the unit and then allow her to drive outside of Maryland and once she drives it she might realize it is not that difficult.

Interesting that most of the comments I hear about the Seneca is that it is a dream to drive compared to most class a units, yet due to its possible weight some states require special licensing. Go figure. Something safer requires more restrictions?

Best wishes in what ever you end up doing.

Sorry to hear about this. Are the requirements for your state's special license too daunting to attempt completing?

I have a Class A but neither my wife or children do. They've looked at the written, pre-trip and driving test requirements and are concerned. Also, accompanying friends could not drive unless they get a learners permit after the written test ($90). My wife didn't like the view from the back of the Seneca and the fact that the drivers and co-pilot seats do not swivel.

For the sake of moving forward, it looks like we will end up in a gas Class A (<26,001# GVW).

I have really enjoyed following you guys with what is clearly a fine product.

After reading a lot of posts by Seneca owners, I'm glad I have a Precept.
