Water Heater Trouble

I have a 2018 Greyhawk. The gas water heater will only light up if you turn on the electric water heater switch when you have the gas switch turned on. It is an Atwood 6 gallon gas & electric water heater. I was thinking it might be a bad ground, but I have checked all outside wires inside the exterior access door. And all look clean ,tight, and dry. Any help will be appreciated. This is my #3 class “C” so I am pretty familiar with the way things work on the Motorhome,,but this has me scratching my head….. Thanks for any Help….

I'm just guessing, but I had a problem with my refrigerator, gas and electric, while trying to run on gas. It needed a good 12 volt power supply to open the automatic gas valve. When I was boondocking and the voltage dropped to around 11 volts, the gas valve would shut off.

Does your water heater have it's own automatic gas valve? It is getting 12 volts?

Here's a video on just that issue. Darren is the best.

I’m guessing that your water heater works on electric when the gas switch is on. I’m thinking your switches are just connected to the wrong wire. You can pull off the switched wires, swap them, and everything will work. I had to swap mine in our older RV.

I would try unplugging the printed circuit board and plugging it again. Kind of like a computer restart. If no wires damaged or moved, the only thing left is the PCB. You may need a new one.
