Water Infiltration

Hi Gang!
We have an 08 Melbourne 26A and discovered a partial de-lamination on the inside door panel. Looking a bit further I discovered a deterioration of the seal between the door window glass and the outside plastic frame. Use care when the screws are removed to access the glass. The seal that would normally hold the glass in place will no longer do the job. An extra set of hands will come in handy. Not a difficult fix but an important one. Another telltale sign is the appearance of rust at the doors base.

Wow, unfortunate...If it's an 08 are you still under warranty? I'll be watching for the signs of water issues on my TT as well; we had some problems with a seam on the roof and I suspect water worked its way into the front wall....Never fun to see such an expensive toy deteriorate......

We have an '08 Melbourne 29D, out of warranty, with the same problem! Inside of door is pimpled, and rust is evident at the bottom just as you indicate. Guess there's nothing we can do about the pimpled door/delamination.

Hmmm seams to be a common problem... TALK TO JAYCO you might be surprised at the reply. IF they do turn you down... since this is a vehicle.. a report to the HTSB would then be in order.

I had a similar issue with our 07 29c Melbourne, however I diagnosed the problem as water coming in around the lap-joint around the perimeter of the door, especially on the lower half. On ours, you could actually stick a fingernail between the joint. I filled the seam with some clear 100% silcone caulk and so far so good.

Leo - wondering if it would be feasible to run a bead of clear silicone caulk around the perimeter of the window, between the glass and the black seal?

Flytyer2 - I sent Jayco a message about the water infiltration issue around the window and rec'd the following reply. I must say, I was a bit offended by his remark that "you can find anything as having a problem on the internet". Huh? Like we're fabricating this stuff on the Jayco Owners Forum? Good grief. I understand that if a unit is out of warranty, it's out of warranty, but it's not like we are making this stuff up.

"My co-worker and I handle all motorized units for all of North America and we have not had this as a concern. All I can say is that you can find anything as having a problem on the internet. I do not show you as the original owner and no warranty was transferred into your name. Also, with an original purchase date of 7/12/2007, the unit is over 1 year out of the manufacturers 2 year limited warranty. I must respectfully decline warranty participation.
