All DEF is manufactured to API or ISO 22241 standards. Any name brand off the shelf DEF or truck stop DEF should work perfectly fine. I personally use PEAK Blue DEF in my Sprinter. Others such as SuperTech DEF from Walmart will also be just fine.

def

X3,

API or ISO 22241
Any that have those certifications on the bottle meet the requirement. I use wal mart def or tractor supply def. Both tested good with a refractometer. No need to pay nearly twice as much for the blue def. Beware there is a shelf life for def, generally about 2 years, and heat accelerates it's breakdown.

I try to stick with PEAK Blue DEF but a lady in my church bought me to cases at Auto Zone a few weeks ago I check the date on them and they where good. I also have a DEF Refractometer to make sure that if I'm not sure I will get it out and check it.

I use the Walmart brand which meets the spec and have no issues. The price for 2.5 gallon is under $7.

One thing I learned this year about def is do not keep mixing new def until it’s needed. As stated you don’t want old def in the tank. Use it up mostly before topping it off .

DEF. Because creating new urea chemical plants, manufacturing and packaging, shipping millions of gallons all over the place, and having millions of thick plastic jugs going into landfills is the environmentally conscious thing to do. Obviously.

But, all approved DEF is created equal. Urea + DI water = DEF. Nothing in there that would justify paying more than the Walmart brand. Some fueling stations will have DEF at the diesel islands. Some prefer that as a source because it's easier to dispense and you're more likely getting fresh DEF. Pretty much anything south of $2.80/gal is an acceptable price.

Come to Ford. We charge $15 for 2.5 gals.

X2, DEF has a shelf life of 2 years. Make sure to check the expiration date. Only buy what you will use within a reasonable time frame, like 6 months.

I have a 2018 Sprinter/2019 Jayco. I let the DEF get below 1/4 full on a trip trying to use older fluid in tank. I had 1 gal of Super Tech DEF and I added this when I filled up the Diesel to get me home. The DEF warning never silenced or went away (10 starts left). At home I added more Blue DEF, without emptying the tank. I drove it over 100 miles thinking it might reset, never happened.
Finally took to MB dealer with 5 starts left. After 3 hours, Final diagnosis was DEF did not meet MB requirements proven by the mechanics refractometer (I saw it).
If I use Super Tech again I will check it with my new refractometer ($25 on Amazon) before I refill the DEF tank. Also, I will not let DEF get below 1/4 full. I have seen this in many post when searching for possible causes of "limited starts" related to DEF on MB.
Good Luck, Happy Camping

I am trying to go between oil changes on my PSD, so far I have not had a low def light come in, but I am guilty of looking at it a lot and I also have a gauge.

I don't think with my current driving habits I need to worry about it getting that old.

Good idea about using a refractometer. I just ordered one from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Refractometer...0112464&sr=8-4 Thanks!

There’s no critical difference whichever you use since it isn’t something that enters your engine, just your exhaust. All do the same thing, to treat your diesel emissions. Has no negative effect on your rig’s performance or it’s components.
