what year is my motorhome???

We just purchased a new 2015 Precept 31UL a few days ago. When I started looking through the mountain of manuals(you all know what I mean) I noticed that the Ford chassis/drive train is a 2014. The DMV will see it as a 2015 but I'm sure when I need service from Ford they will want to know it is a 2014. Any comments on this?

That's what Jayco gets for naming their units 2015's as soon as it turns 2014....stupid marketing IMO. I don't understand the need to call something a year newer than we are actually in

I would honestly consider it a 2014 if that is what the chassis is

They buy chassis's in mass quantity so the chassis vin may be an 14, but the coach is a model year 15. The same thing happens with most motorized units where the chassis is a year older than the coach. Not exclusive to JAYCO. When you take it in for service the dealer will go by the vin. I am also sure you signed a delayed warranty disclosure so you get the full FORD warranty which did not take affect until the day you closed the deal.

they may buy them in mass quantities but they should be badged 2014 until the new model year chassis's come in IMO.

What makes the body a 2015? just because they say it is?

The same should then apply to the auto industry. They are making cars and trucks labeled 2015, but the calendar says it is only 2014... The RV industry as a whole has been doing that since the inception of motorized.

Yup...agreed..

at least the auto industry waits until the fall unless it is a complete redesign they can come out sooner.

In addition to the "model year marketing" strategy deployed by the industry discussed above, I think the biggest differential is that there is a fleet of 2014 Precepts that were sold. Then there are the current 2015 Precepts that have some minor differences than the 2014s.

Here's a link to a Jayco video that shows what they added/enhanced for 2015:

your MH is (and will be on the title as) a 2015.
Yes the frame (or the correct term-the incomplete vehicle) may have been a 2014, but the coach was built in the 2015 "MFG" year. So it is a 2015 officially.

Despite popular belief, the auto industry has done this for years with various parts, like the engine, !

I guess the good news is I can own it for a year and it will still be "new". I'll be curious to know of any changes Ford makes on the 2015 chassis. Thanks for your input guys. Didn't intend to ruffle so many feathers with that one!!

Yep. My chassis is 2014, live in box- 2015. When I titled it, there was no discussion. Titled as 2015. Believe me, if there was a problem with the different years, MoDot would find it. lol....what Grumpy said...........
Enjoy

I have a 1999 283G Eagle on a 1998 E450 chassis. It COULD make a difference when buying repair parts for the chassis.

Chuckandcindy

I have this same situation with both my Greyhawk and my Ford Escape. It can get confusing. So, in the cover of my Ford owner's manuals I record the engine number, the mfg date, the model year, and the date I took possession. Oh ya, remember the date your tires were made. I've got to write it down because I have CRS.
