We tow our 2005 mini cooper 4 down. Use a brake buddy which came with a battery charging system as we need to keep key turned onto first position so steering wheel does not lockup. Tows just fine.

Have to perform specific routine before towing. Very simple. Instructions in manual. Supposed to start and run engine for a few minutes every 8 hours. Don't drive that far at one time anymore. I had charging wire installed so wouldn't have to worry about radio and other things discharging battery during travel.

2016 Malibu automatic 4 down with blue ox base plate, tow bar and brake system. Hook up tow bar, car in neutral, key position at accessory. No need to pull fuses or run engine periodically. Just drive away. Car is roughly 3000 lbs.

We also tow a Mini, 2010 Clubman on a tow dolly but my next set up will be a 4x4 mid size pick up.
More storage plus off road ability..

This is the size pick up I would like to tow. 4x4 all wheels down. Right now we tow a Mini Cooper on a dolly. Do you tow 4 down, what do you tow with? We have a 2016 class A

Towing with the toad

Four years ago, we bought a used Chevy Colorado 4x4 with really low miles on it. Seems that the first owner had used it as a toad behind a big Class A, four down with a brake buddy and the transfer case in neutral.
Since then, we have used it to tow our small (3500#) TT since the max tow capacity of the truck is only 4,000#.

2007 Toyota FJC - Always on the trailer since it can not be flat or dolly towed. Mostly taken off-road on adventures, sometimes gets groceries in town.

Yamaha Kodiak 400 - On the trailer too - mostly for adventures or beer runs (and once for tampons in an emergency)

Old-town Canoe - like the two above... when the roads are too wet or the fish are biting.

Any issue with storing the trailer when you get to a campground? Thinking about switching to a MH so I can have something more offroad-able than my diesel truck when away. A trailer is useful when I'm at home as well.

We took a 5 month trip last winter from Salt Lake City Utah to Miami Florida and stayed one week in each campground along the way. What we found was really suprising, where the most expensive of the RV parks in LA and FL were small in size and did not have spaces longer than 40ft. They offered a place where the trailer could be stored on their property and some charged an additional fee for that.

Of all of the parks we visited, only three of them required us to put our trailer in the storage. The rest were big enough to leave our trailer hooked up to the Seneca while in it's space. Our trailer is 28' and the Seneca is 38' 6" overall.

The ones that did not have space in our camp spot for the trailer:
Davie FL - KOA,
Navarre Beach FL - Santa Rosa RV Resort
Fort Meyers FL- Shady Acres RV Park

I have a 2017 Redhawk 26X1. Just did a 1,600 mile trip pulling a toad for the first time. Our toad is a Ford Fiesta with manual and the ecoboost engine. My hook-up consists of a Roadmaster baseplate, Sterling towbar and Brake Buddy Classic. Everything worked great and towing was easy. My wife commented "why didn't we do this before?". our fuel mileage dropped from 9-1/2 to 9-1/4 mpg, but we saved big time in not driving the RV when we arrived at a destination.

2013 Kia Soul on Acme tow dolly. A WORD OF ADVICE. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A SPARE AND A TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR setup on your dolly and rear car tires!

Just this past summer, while driving my Class B on a trip up north, on i95, someone, (who i am sure did not maintain their car!), lost their drive shaft. it took out 4 cars and my passenger side tow dolly tire! at 70 MPH! I managed to swerve gently to avoid running straight over it! It bent the dolly tire rim and my tire pressure sensor alarmed immediately. I pulled right over and change the tire. we were VERY luck!
