Who had generator issues fixed by onan/cummins/
So my generator set has a problem where it will cut off while driving. I cannot duplicate the issue, and thought it was fixed. I thought I read someone here that had theirs fixed with some wiring being the root cause, but cannot find that post.
My Onan dealer has another similar jayco with similar reported issue, and they are now able to replicate the fault on that unit by driving over railroad tracks while the AC is running, aka under load. Onan is hoping it is a coach wiring issue, but I fail to see how that could be. My gut tells me that Gen set has some wobbly bits that don't like any sudden jarring while under load and will cause the gen set to stall.
Any thoughts?

Some corrections to the above statements.
Current Onan dealer cannot get Gen set to cut out when the AC is not on.
Maybe the AC is wonky and causing a double cycle.
We will know more later. Mine will run the same circuit of testing on Monday.

My generator in both a 2015ul Precept and 2015un Precept would shut down while driving. My issue was the oil level had to be exactly at the full level. If it was down just a little the gens would shut down on curves, coming to a hard stop, etc. No problems since keeping the oil level exactly full.

If it is a loose connection or poor ground you maybe able to replicate it while parked in a driveway by shaking and lightly tugging on the wiring connections. Also how was your fuel level if you were getting close to 1/3 tank and hit some bumpy ground maybe the gas sloshed around and couldnt reach the pickup causing it to stall. I couldnt get my gen to start one day then i rembered my dealer telling me they shut off at 1/3 tank.

Greyhawk01 Fuel is not the issue. As a matter of fact, mine will continue to run right down to the 1/8th of a tank mark if we let it.
My Onan Dealer is monitoring this thread to see if anyone comes forward with a fix or something that another owner might have done to combat this similar issue.

I think you are looking for my information on a previous post regarding the generator in my 31 FS motorhome. The issue with my Onan was that it would shut down after 20 or 30 minutes. I took it to Cummins Service Center in Tulsa as it was under warranty. It also did the same thing for them and shutdown on Code 36. While inspecting wiring they found remote harness wires going into genset near fan hub. They pulled out remote harness and inspected wires. 3 wires had been rubbing against fan and were down to bare wire. The wires that were bare were the start, stop and ground wires causing shutdowns if bare stop signal wire ever came into contact with fan. They repaired remote harness wiring. Since this repair the generator has never repeated the problem and works great. Good luck with diagnosis on your generator. It is an item that in certain places you want to depend upon.

Exactly! The search function here leaves a bit to be desired.
Headed to Alaska, so YES I will need it.

Got word that my fuel pump was making unusual noises, so they will be replacing it.

Cummins ran mine for 8 continuous hours testing before I got it back again. I would think that once you get it back from your Cummins dealer that it will be fine. Do keep us posted on your experiences there in Alaska.

OK finally have the fix. New fuel pump was what ultimately corrected the problems. There were a few days spent chasing if in the fuel lines, but tht was a simple loose fitting. Thinking it was a fuel issue they replaced the fuel filter. Which Onan won't cover under warranty, oh well..

Late to the discussion here but I've hit the issue with the 36 error code on my two week old Cummins/Onan 5500. Really, it was the first time I used it for more than just a few minutes when it was demonstrated during the PDI.
After priming, it started right up... I let it idle for maybe 5 mins before starting to apply any load. Then, using the recommended sequence, I added the load in increments. All was good for about 20-30 mins when I heard the gen set stumble and stall. Now I can't get the darn thing to start although it cranks just fine.
Using troubleshooting guides I've found on the Cummins/Onan site, I've checked the oil level (it's close to full and right between the hashed marks as suggested), fuel level reads about 7/8 on the gauge but I know it's gotta be close to full, checked the spark plug wires to make sure they're snug, and checked the fuel lines for any shut-off valves (haven't found one). Also checked the air cleaner and it looks brand new, as you would expect.
After much reading, it would appear that the fuel pump is the most likely issue... at least that seems to be the problem most folks with this code had. I guess my next step is to find a Cummins/Onan dealer in the area.
Any tips or guidance from you guys that have had to bring yours in for warranty support?

I never got an error code, so I cannot be of much use there.
So far my dealings with them have been fairly painless.

I have an issue that my generator works fine when parked, but shuts off in under a mile of travel. Yes, the gas tank is full. Last night I checked and filled connections with dielectric grease and overfilled the oil by 4 oz or so. I took a quick trip around the block and it didn't shut off. I'm hoping this is the fix. Only time and the next trip will tell.

I would imagine the dealer can handle your generator issues under warranty. No?

On fuel issues and especially in areas where stale fuel can sit, I would Highly recommend Sea Foam. Great product and resolves many fuel issues.
Obviously, it won't fix a rubbed wire or a bad fuel pump, but you can certainly rule out old or poor fuel.
Google for reviews on Sea Foam. I have no association with the company or the product other than being a very satisfied user.
