Why wouldn't this work.....

We love our 2011 Greyhawk 31FS that we have traveled in to the majority of the contiguous states. We love the layout and comfort, but my wife has one complaint that is common to most, if not all, class C rigs. If you are riding in any area of the motorhome EXCEPT THE CAB, it is difficult to see the scenery coming up ahead. This is due, of course, from the overhead bunk, the smaller windshield and the angle from the dining/living area of the motor home when compared to a Class A rig. Why couldn't the manufacturer install a forward facing camera that would send a driver's view of the scenery to a tv monitor set up behind the driver's area? Maybe it's a silly idea that most would not want, but it seems like it could be sort of a virtual Class A windshield for folks riding in the living area of the Greyhawk. Sort of a goofy idea that just came to me today and I was curious as to other Class C Jayhawkers thoughts. Feel free to tell me why this is such a bad idea.....

Might interfere with the kids playing their video games?

However, I like the idea!

It seems it could be done by an owner and someone savvy in electronics. The stuff is out there and it really isn't necessary for the manufacturer to install it.

Do they make dash cameras with external video out? If they do, send the video to the overhead tv.

Not a bad idea and the owner could certainly do it with any camera such as the ones used for backup and of a course a larger monitor. These cameras and monitors are readily available today just about everywhere including Ebay. The real problem is a front mounted camera would require constant cleaning of the lens just like the windshield and would be subject to all the debris dirt, rocks and everything else that make contact with the windshield. Just think on a night when all the tiny critters are flying around the camera lens would be covered quickly.

Just mount it inside, where the rear view mirror would be located. Jut need to clean the windshield once in a while.

You could mount inside windshield as well I agree. All these cameras used for backup could be used but I think if you want a good picture on a 15" inch monitor you would need a camera with fairly high resolution over most backup type if you want the edges to to clear. These camera are easy to connect to with just a video signal cable a ground and power supply wires. I have one mounted on the back of my Redhawk to be able to see the road behind me and is on all the time.

I'd think you'd also want a wide-angle camera lens. Staring down the center line of the highway on the monitor would get old fast. Being able to see some scenery along side the road would be better, IMO.

Get a cheap 'backup' camera and mount it on the nose. Run your power and signal inside and attach the video-out to your tv's component video in. I would think it would be a pretty easy job as you should have 12v and a place near the tv where cables can penetrate the roof!

Usually the up front TV is locked out when moving because it could distract the driver.
