Winter Temps Question

We have a 2018 Jayco Redhawk 26XD that we bought in July. We are currently in New Hampshire and have been living in our RV while we build a house. Since it's starting to get cold, we have moved in with family until we leave to drive the RV cross country in about a month. In the meantime, the RV is sitting next to a barn and is plugged in. My question is, do we need to do anything to the RV aside from leaving the tank heaters on to keep it safe from the cold until we leave at the beginning of December? We have the heat off and the water heater on. Thanks for any advice!

Do you have an outside shower? They freeze and burst nicely.

I would purchase a blowout plug and at the very least drain all water and blow out all lines. With heat inside you don't need to drop pink in the traps unless you want to turn the heat off. Or for the $4 you can do that also just in case of a power failure.

Probably cheaper in the long run to blow it out and shut it down for the month with pink in the traps, don't forget to turn off the water heater and drain it also.

I don't live in an area where we need to winterize but from what I have read there are a multitude of issues that happen when you don't in freeze prone areas.

There are some web sites that can help you with winterizing, and from what I have heard it involves more than just blowing out line as the pex lines can get pretty brittle in freezing temps. There should be some info in your unit's paperwork about preparing for low temps and setting up the unit for winter.

It is not something to be taken lightly. A bunch of damage can happen if left undone.

Tank heaters are great for the tanks, but not for the rest of the plumbing.

I would recommend winterizing with RV antifreeze. Leave it that way until you get someplace warmer. Then secure a full hookup campsite, and flush all the lines.

When you start out on your trip, have a few jugs of water. Feel free to put it down the drain.

I would be worried if the temps don't come up over 40* during the day. Tank heaters do help but they are not great. To be safe just winterize the rig it doesn't take too long or at the very least open all the low point drains and take the pressure off so that way if it does get a hard freeze at least there is someplace for the ice to expand and hopefully not pop a fitting

I am in MA and have been waiting to winterize mine, sounds like it may get fairly cold here next week. I have 2 more weekend events before i put her away for the weekend.
