Adding Glass Cooktop Cover
Though this was done to my 2018 Starcraft Satellite 17RB, it could benefit any camper needing more counter space, which the Satellite sorely needed. With the 17RB having the Suburban 2-burner cooktop and sink side-by-side, the only counter space is behind them and only large enough for a small coffeemaker and, even though I had already purchased a cutting board to fit over the cooktop for more usable space, I decided to install a “Suburban 2983A Glass Cooktop Cover” made specifically for this cooktop that I found available on Amazon for less than $80, after carefully measuring the space above AND BELOW the counter. I’ll warn you though, the packaging of the cover for shipping is very poor and it may take ordering 2-3 times to get one usable! My 1st order was severely bent all the way around the glass, so it was returned and the 2nd one came bent on a back corner, but I was able to straighten it well enough to use. I cut this one in close to the side wall on the right, so that when the cooktop is being used, the glass also keeps heat & splatters off the wall. Having seen these recessed burners on larger TT’s, I’m pleased to say the process went perfectly and the result is a game changer, as they say!
Granted, with the spacing instructions included with the cover for cutting out the countertop, I’m pretty handy doing my own work and had all the necessary tools, but I’m happy to share some pix during the process from start to finish.
