Stehl Tow Dolly

Recently purchased a new Stehl tow dolly and hooked it up behind our motorhome and loaded the wifes Equinox on to it. Went on a 5 day trip and found out that the rear of the dolly ramps drag the ground often on uneven roads or parking lots and in campgrounds. Measured the distance from the ground to the bottom of the ramps and there is only 3 inches of clearance. No wonder it will drag. I am with in the specs noted in the owners manual. I measured another tow dollies ramps from another manufacturer and it had 6 inches of clearance from the road to the bottom of the ramps. I dont know what to do from here except put the Stehl up for sale and purchase another brand. The stehl dolly has 13 inch wheel and tires on it but I see other dollies that have 14 inch wheel and tires, maybe thats the solution...

Thanks for the info. Thats probably what I'm going to buy when the Stehl is sold. I have even called and emailed Stehl and got no replies...

Just a thought- because you are going to take a beating on selling it, perhaps take to a fab shop and see if they can come up with a solution to gain more clearance? May be cheaper than replacing it?

We solved our problem by using a ball mount with a greater drop. Lowered the tongue which raised the ramps.

Demco 9713947 is a great dolly with a lot of interesting innovations. It features low tongue weight, making the towing process easier. Another great feature of this Demco tow dolly is the surge brakes. These are smooth and can be worked with easily.

I would try and lower the hitch ball before selling and buying another. At least eliminate that as a solution.

I have a Stehl tow dolly and don't have that issue, I highly suspect you need a drop hitch and lower the ball as norty1 and rpr suggested. ~CA
