Tailgate Ladder for Pickup - Traxion

Getting older and having been in the hospital for back problems, my wife noticed that I was doing some struggling to get up into the back of my pickup bed. She bought me a Traxion pickup truck ladder as a Christmas present a few years ago. Here is my recommendation on it:

Product: Traxion Tailgate Ladder
Recommendation: Highly recommended
Price: Less than $40 on Amazon Robot Check
Specifications: Listed on Traxion website (ignore the $75 price, Amazon has it for half that price). Tailgate Ladder – TraXion Engineered Products

Likes:
I've used this ladder for a couple of years now and it works very well.
  • Adjusts pretty well to uneven ground conditions
  • Easy to get up into truck bed when loading or unloading
  • Folds against tailgate and is not in the way
  • Entire ladder can be removed easily by taking out two pins when you need a clear tailgate
  • Very inexpensive
  • Fairly sturdy construction, but still pretty light in weight (I'm a big guy and it supports my weight just fine)
Dislikes:
  • Velcro provided to hold ladder against tailgate in folded position is completely inadequate
  • This is easily remedied by adding additional velcro hold down straps
  • Ladder can be noisy during travel on rough roads if it is not securely fastened in folded position by additional velcro
Summary: A very useful tool and a real back-saver for me. You need to still be careful when climbing up and down and some sort of grab handle at the top of the ladder would be helpful, but I just make sure to hang on to the side of the truck bed when climbing up or down.

I have one of these. A bit pricey but easy to use and stores out of the way.

I also have these running boards. DW loves them, finds them much easier than the fixed boards. The height exactly splits the distance between the door sill and the ground.

Funny! I had the Traxion Ladder on my previous pick-up, but the velcro never held, and it was always swinging around and rattling. When I bought the NEW pick-up, I went with the Amp BEDSTEP that Sailor posted.... Makes the bed accessible regardless of whether the tailgate is up or down.

The Chevy/GMC cut-in step is a great improvement, but it's still too high a step for an old fart, like me! I need something between it, and the ground. It sucks to get old, but it's always better than the alternative!

I have a V tail gate so I just use an aluminum 3ft step ladder.

I don't know what I'd do without my AMP bed step!
