Came home to another power outage today. Ran the downstairs freezer and upstairs fridge at the farmhouse on the Generac and the fridge at the ranch style house plus both refrigerators in the trailer on the Westinghouse.

I'm still very pleased with the performance of the Westinghouse, especially at the price I paid for it.

Pulling this thread back up. Sam's Club has the iGen2500 , the big brother to the iGen2200 I purchased last year, on sale this weekend for $399 with free shipping.

https://www.samsclub.com/p/westingho...4751?xid=hpg_3

I just ordered one. I'll let you all know how it stacks up once it comes in.

I purchased the Powermate PM2200i about a year ago and haven't had any issues. One thing I did that some of you may like to do as well, is that I added an hour meter. Simple to use and I had to get double sided tape (didn't want to use screws). In any case, this helps a lot with knowing when to change the oil and other maintenance service. You can get this off of ebay or amazon. Some people on amazon report this is not reliable, but it seems to work well for my PM2200i.

Thanks. That is a nice idea. I don't know if this one has an hour meter on it or not since it does have a display. But if it doesn't, I will definitely pick one up.

The one you ordered does have an hour meter as I took a look at the link you shared earlier to compare that one with what I purchased a year ago. Mine and those like mine don't have a digital display, wish it did, but it was on sale at a great price, 319$ when I purchased it.

Neither my iGen2200 or my Generac GP2200i have an hour meter. I wish I would have added one on like you have from the beginning on both of those.

I took another look at the one you ordered, the ad shows the display with "Lifetime run hours" but when I clicked on the manual as I wanted to remind myself how often to change the oil, in the manual for the one in your link it doesn't show "lifetime run hours" and instead it says "Does not display lifetime hours." So... anyway you will find out soon enough I suspect.

Thanks. I'm going to download the manual later tonight and start reading up on it. It should be here by the end of next week.

One more tip to share. Most all modern oil(s) you can purchase do not have zinc in the oil as was common years back. Zinc is bad for catalytic converters which is why most all auto oils no longer have it. However, older engines and even new engines based on the older designs with a valvetrain that has a cam pushrods and rocker arms would last a lot lot longer if the oil had zddp (zinc) in it. What the zinc does is it coats the mechanical parts that touch each other with a material that prevents the wear that would otherwise occur (the zinc is compromised instead of the steel in the engine). I highly recommend this (or any zddp product) for engines like what these generators have in them. If you read your manual, there is a section that speaks about adjusting the valve lash and provides an image to what I am talking about. I fully believe that the engine will last a lot lot longer with this (or similar) additive. I also use this in other gas engines (other than those like in an auto that have a catalytic converter). This isn't snake oil, lots of information about how well zinc is, but not for modern auto's. BTW, I would break-in the engine with the oil the generator comes with, then consider this additive.

I'm probably not going to have a chance to unbox it until the weekend. But, it arrived today.

Unboxed and fired up the new iGen2500 a little while ago. Here are some quick observations.

The case is identical to the iGen2200 and Generac GP2200i with the exception of the decals. The slightly larger engine is evident with the panel off. The display, which neither 2200 uses, has output, remaining runtime, fuel level, and lifetime hours. Unlike the 2200's, the fuel cap doesn't have a manual vent.

The unit started on the 3rd pull after adding fuel. I'm running a breakin cycle with a portable heater as we speak. So far, it looks like a good score for $399.

Thanks, that's good to know. Hopefully Fedex finds its posterior with both hands and delivers mine soon. I didn't get quite the deal you did (not a Sam's Club member) but I was happy enough compared to normal retail price.

Was there oil in the box with it?

Yes. Premeasured bottle of 10w30, a funnel, and a tool set with a spark plug wrench and screwdriver to remove the service panel.

Excellent. If I carry the tools I expect to have along on a roadtrip then the spark plug wrench won't be necessary, but it's nice when the generator comes with the oil and funnel. I've been rather surprised that Honda and others don't include the first oil.

I'm also a little surprised that these size of generators lack oil filters, but perhaps it's because their sumps are so small and their oiling systems are so simple that it would be difficult to pump oil through a filter to begin with.

Have you put one of those magnetic dipstick/fill-plugs in?

No, I have not. I've just used the plug that came with mine.

I saw that you tested the generators with the oil-filled heaters. And that's a pretty darn good test. But have you tried it with an RV air conditioner without a soft start capacitor?

Not with this generator. But, I did run my Colman Mach 13.5K with my Generac GP2200i when I first got it. Now, keep in mind that it started and ran it fine on a 70 degree day at approx 1900' elevation. I haven't tried it any hotter outside.

Once things warm up here, I will see what this 2500 does with the AC on its own.

Having a lot of generators is a good thing! Thanks for the link on the Igen 2500 and it only weighs 46lbs!

I have a 2915 Eagle Premier with the GEN PREP but it is a gasoline prep. So I have a Westinghouse 9500 gen I want to put in. Problem is it is 26 inches high and my bay is only 22 inches high. So I was wondering if I can remove the gas tank and run the lines from the RV tank directly into the Generator. It also has a gen on switch inside the trailer so how do I wire that. It has a (I Think 7 pin) plug in the gen bay. Does any one know where I can get the wiring diagram and is removing the fuel tank viable?
