12V battery

We're new to RVs. Bought a 2006 Jayco Eagle. Can't get it to switch to 12V battery power when disconnecting from 110V. How do we switch? Or is it normally automatic and something's broken? Any suggestions?

Everything that works off 12 volts will continue to work off 12 volts without 110 hooked up provided you have a battery installed. Things that need 110 volts like microwave and AC will not.

Most likely a dead battery or a manual battery disconnect switch.

Seasonal campers like to add a disconnect switch so the battery will not be continuously overcharged by the power converter. It is also nice to keep the battery from discharging during winter storage.

Start at the battery. Does it have juice? If you don't have a voltmeter then touch an old incandescent 12v bulb to the battery posts to find out.

If you have juice at the battery and no interior lights work, check for a switch in the big wire lead coming from the "+" terminal of the battery. My first 5er had a knife switch (!) installed in a plastic electrical box in the top corner bathroom linen closet.
