15,000 BTU "Whisper Quiet" AC, and power requirements - Do i even need it?

Just doing all my research before I buy a 16' Eagle HT 26.5BHS.

For an extra $150 I can get the upgraded 15k BTU Whisper Quiet AC over the standard 13.5K BTU Whisper Quiet that comes with it. We will most often be dry camping so I am concerned with the power requirements of the 15k AC option over the 13.5k standard.

I want to be able to power the unit with 2 Yamaha 2000W generators in parallel. I dont foresee us camping in extreme heat very often (mostly we'll be camping int the Sierra's so don't even know if I need the 15k but for only an extra $100 it seems worth it? The sales guy says the new AC units can easily be started by 2 2000W generators run in parallel but looking to hear some real world use. Unfortunately I'm always just a little leery of sales persons, however the one I'm working with seems very knowledgeable.

Looking online it looks like 15k units actually use less "running" watts then a 13.5k unit, but of course take way more to get it started....

Thanks in advance!!!

The generator should have no issues but "Whisper Quite"? The only way I get quite is to run the A/C in the room I'm not in. Bedroom A/c during the day and living area at night. I'm in the heat of NM and rarely use both at the same time, maybe just after setup the cool the unit and then shut one down.

I don't expect it to be quiet, that's just how Jayco brands it on their website. I am trying to figure out who actually makes the AC unit so I can look up specs, starting requirements etc..... I assumed "Whisper Quiet" was a branded model line or something. Not even the rep at Jayco knew for sure who makes it, but thought it might be Coleman.

We got the "whisper quiet" and it is a very quiet unit compared to all the others I have had in the last 20 years. I am amazed at the low decibel level while in the RV with it running on high. You can easily hear the television or have a conversation. The only thing that we may miss is the "cool air dump" where we used to be able to direct all the cold air straight down instead of through the vents.

Make of the unit would be a Coleman, just not sure exactly which model. I think on the Eagle it'd be the Mach 15. You can dig around at www.rvcomfort.com. Or here's the link directly to the Mach 15: Airxcel | RV Products | Rooftop Air

If it's the lower profile, it'd be the Mach 8 or 10, but I think they only do those on the North Point and Pinnacle.

You will have no problem running the 15k, no matter which brand, on 2 - 2000 watt gensets run in parallel like you have. We've run a majority of the RV on 2 of the Honda versions (converter, fridge, AC etc.)

Maybe off subject, but I prefer the old style installation. With the "whisper quiet", all is good, but no way to inspect the compression seal except opening up the intake box on top of the RV, and even then I think you can only get to a portion of it. Only way to know if there is a leak on a whisper quiet unit is when water comes out of your vents. By then the damage is done. Other complaint is they're usually installed with lag bolts from the top opposed to the clamp ring with finer threads, or at least this is how some manf install them. Strip a lag bolt and you'll be figuring out a plan B to get the gasket compressed. That said, not much you can do about it as more and more are doing it this way. My Tiffin Class A had 2 - 15k heat pumps done like this. Never a problem, but still prefer the old way with the clamp ring.

I plan to do the same thing with the same generators. Much more neighbor friendly and portable. A clean source is also nice. I will be running dual ACs here in the the Houston area during the summer and not on shore power.

If it is quieter than the 13,500 we have on our 2012 HT 26.5 RLS, then I would say go for it. Our 13,500 is very loud, uncomfortably so. I would switch out for a quiet one, but we don't very often need an AC here in the Rocky Mountains where we camp out, usually at Colter Bay in Grand Teton National Park.

In your signature it shows you have a 16' Jayco. And you have the 15k BTU on it? If you remember you'll have to let me now how well the twin 2000W generators run that thing when you get them.

They will, I assure you. Too many people have done it, including myself. I still have the Honda's, and it's even better when you have an aux tank for them. We made our own 6 gallon set up. Figure now, I'm running a 4000 watt Champion / 3500 constant genset. In the summer, I can run the 15k Coleman Mach 15, residential fridge, converter / lights, and it's not in a big bind. Have done the same with the Honda's on a bigger rig, no problem. It's the same if not similar components with similar power draw no matter what it's on. I always chose to run the Honda's at a constant rpm opposed to eco-throttle. If I remember correctly, we'd run around 4 hours under major load with the stock tanks, so well over 24 hours with the 6 gal aux tank. The Yamahas should be similar.

If you PM me, I will have a record and will be able to let you know something in March of 2016.

I have two 15k units and a Powerhouse 4000efi unit, had 50amp service plug on rv, should have got a bigger unit, worked sometimes but it the a/c was hot, it would not restart because it draws more amps and the generator would pop a circuit. wish I had the 13.5btu in the bedroom, it doesn't run that much. .
