17.5 Inch Upgrade

Well my wheels arrived today. As soon as the yard dries up I will install them. I ordered them from Trailer Tires and Wheel. They were packed well and arrived with no damage within a week of ordering. That included clearing customs. The staff at Trailer Tires and Wheel have been excellent to work with and so far I would recommend them. I went with the Hi-Spec Series 3 wheel with the Goodyear G114.

The yard finally dried up enough to complete the install. Wheels went on with no problem. Everything fits well and looks great. The wheel on the left is the new one.

What did that cost you for four wheels and tires? Coming from 16" tires, are you gaining height and do you have any concerns with the space between the tires? I'm asking because we have the same model trailer as yours on order. Thanks

Cost without shipping was $2700. There are no clearance issues at all. In fact this setup is almost identical in height and width to the original wheels/tires. I think I am less than 1/2 inch taller and the new Goodyears are narrower than the Tow Max that came with the unit. I went with the Goodyear G114 in a 215/75/R17.5. These tires are rated for 4800lbs.

As I stated in an earlier thread, all I wanted to do was upgrade the rubber to the Goodyear G614 but the stock wheels were only good for 80 psi. So I followed the breadcrumbs and ended up here. Everything purchased through trailertireandwheel.com.

My new problem is that my old shop air compressor can't make enough pressure to top thes new tires off. So off to the store I go......

Thanks cariboocreek... very informative, clear and concise. So it sounds like the 351RSTS comes with 80 lb rims and I assume the G114's are rated for 100 psi.

Yes the stock rims were stamped at 80 psi. The G614, which are the only 14 ply tire in the 16 inch wheel category are 110 psi tires. My new G114 are a 125 psi tire and my new rims are rated for 130 psi. If you go down this road be careful about the psi rating of the rims. High Spec makes a series 7 wheel in the 17.5 diameter but several of those rims are only rated for 110 psi. Of course if you use the sliding scale you could run these G114 at less than the max pressure as the tire load rating is way above what you and I need with our fifth wheel. The other thing I liked about the G114 is that they are a speed rated to 75 mph.

Quahog, the 351 RSTS is a nice choice. We really like ours and especially the outdoor kitchen. Our only complaint is the outdoor grill it comes with....it sucks. So we just went a got a small propane bbq and I am trying to build some brackets so I can use the mount off the rear bumper. Other than that its a great layout. Enjoy!

Well, they are Goodyears and look like stainless steel rims.

After looking for months at the Pinnacles 38FLFS and 38FLSA and thinking that was what we were going to get, one of the folks here suggested we look at the Premier 351RSTS. Well we did and I just found I liked the layout better. We waited for the Houston RV show in February so we could do an up-close comparison and that's when we decided the 351RSTS was it. I'm pretty psyched... the new trailer is coming off the line on 5/4 so I'm thinking by mid-May we should be close to having it. Can't wait.

As far as the grill, that's maybe the only option I didn't go with. I have two that I've used for the past few years... a Weber Q100 and a Cuisinart CCG-200. They're mutually exclusive... which one we take depends on my mood. Both do the job fine and I love being able to connect them to the rear of our current trailer and not have to carry an extra propane tank. I have collapsible stands for each that take up very little room and they're very sturdy so it works out well.

Having an outdoor kitchen and cool storage for liquid refreshments is going to be great!

That was the clincher for DW and I when we bought the 29.5BHDS, the interior was what we were looking for and we liked it but when we came out and the salesman had the outdoor kitchen opened up it was sold! Something about having cold beverages and not having to go in to get them

We have a 2011 Pinnacle 36RETS, and we went with a similar wheel and tire upgrade from trailertiresandwheels.com. We have almost completed 2 return trips from Ontario to California on the tires, and the feeling of confidence is priceless. I went with the same wheels and Sumitomo tires (made in Japan). I run them at 120 psi and they are wearing well. Check out our blog article for the full story on our upgrade.
