I've ready here how many members have upgraded their wheels and tires to 17.5" (e.g., wheels & Goodyear G614s).
I'm curious to know what the reason and advantages there is for doing a 17.5" upgrade over a 16" wheel & G614 upgrade.
Note: this post is not intended to question why individual have done the upgrade, but to better my understanding of the upgrade based on others who have done it.
From my research on Trailer Tires & Wheels, which most point to for the 17.5" upgrade, the 17.5" upgrade costs ~$1,000 more then the 16" upgrade.
The 16" upgrade with the
Goodyear G614 LT235/85R16 LR-G tires will give you an increased weight capacity to 3,750 LBS @ 110 PSI.
The 17.5" upgrade with the Goodyear
G614 ST215/75R17.5 LR-H tires will give you an increase weight capacity to 4,805 LBS @ 120 PSI
If you have 7,000 lbs rated axles, it seems like the 16" would be more then sufficient.
If your axles are rated higher then 7,000 lbs, I see the value in the 17.5" upgrade.
Are their trailers that have axles rated higher then 7,000 lbs?
As I said, I'm more curious and
this post is not intended to question why individual have done the upgrade, but to understand individuals reasons for dong the upgrade for my better understanding.
Thanks
