2 ac question.
I have a 28.5rsts on order and because of a lot of people suggested I got 2 ac's. The question I have is if I go to a park that only has 30amp service can I run 2 ac's? Does the unit have option of running one ac at a time? I'm new to rving so sorry for the simple questions just didn't think about this until about 3 o'clock last night.

If you have 2 AC units and a 50-amp service on your FW, then most likely you won't be able to use both AC units with a 30-amp connection. Even with one AC unit running, you may pop a breaker if you have too many appliances running on one circuit breaker. We'd popped a CB from time to time using the 30-amp, when my wife started using a hairdryer, while the coffee maker was brewing. With the 30-amp service, you just need to be conscious of what appliance you're using.

No, you can't run both units on 30 amps at the same time. You can run either one on 30 amp. You can choose which unit to run. They should be ducted together. So if you only own the main unit, it will still put AC out the vents in the bedroom. Each unit has its own wall mounted thermostat.

If you try to run 2 AC's on a 30amp adapter from a 50amp camper you will melt the adapter and really make the campground owner angry when you melt the 30amp service.

Melting a 50 amp to 30 dogbone adapter is something that won't happen. Running two air conditioners requires two legs of alternating current. The 30 amp adapter only uses 3 out of the 4 wires and only one leg of the alternating current.

The simplest answer is no.
You will be ok running either one but not both at the same time. It will be up to you to control the thermostat of the one in use and turn the other one off.

Yes
Thanks I forgot a 50 amp is set up differently. I guess I was thinking in terms of a 30 amp to 15/20 amp adapter.

I've got two A/Cs and I have run 1 with the fridge and all the lights on 30amp with no issue. I turned the AC off to use the microwave just to be safe.

The 50 to 30 adapter powers both sides of a 50 amp coach it has an internal jumper, thus it could melt.

Perhaps your adapter is different than mine but measuring with an ohmmeter, there's only three pins of my 50 amp adapter that are used. One pin on the 50 amp end is completely open to all three pins on the 30 amp end. That tells me that L1 (or L2), Neutral, and ground are the only pins hooked up on the 30 amp end.
OK, upon further reading I see you're talking about 50/30 whereas I'm talking 30/50. If it's 30/50, even if the 50 amp side is ties both L1 and L2 together, the 30 amp breaker on the box will protect the adapter. Turn on both ACs at once and the 30 amp breaker will trip. If the adapter is 30/50, then only 1 AC will run.

You can't run both A/C units on a 30amp service. I also have a 28.5 rsts with two A/C's. The trick is leave the bedroom A/C off until you go to bed. Turn the rear A/C off, then turn your bedroom A/C on. This is all you have to do. Happy camping Bud.
