2012 Jayco 31.5 Ultra Lite gelcoat crack

We are working with the dealer and Jayco on an issue with a crack in the gelcoat under the slide on our 5th wheel. Anyone else had similar problems? Would be interested in resolutions and negotiations!

Had a crack about 6 inches long coming from the lower left corner of the bedroom slide (2011 31.5RLST). Talked to dealer and jayco. Took trailer to Jayco plant and they fixed. Crack was caused by either a bad weld or by a broken weld. Jayco fixed by rewelding and adding gussets on both sides. They took pictures of the problem and pictures after repair was made. Have not used trailer much since repair, but am getting ready to leave for winter and we will see. Might add, we could not have been treated better than we were treated at the Jayco p[ant. Dropped trailer off on Monday and picked up on following Friday. Dealer said they would come and get it and return when fixed, but I opted to take it myself.

Some times I wonder if the seemingly common bedroom slide cracks may be partially do to hitting the pin to hard when hooking up and dropping to hard when unhooking. I always set my pin height so that there is no or almost no weight on the 5th wheel hitch when hooking allowing a nice smooth non-violent connection. Likewise when dropping I have the legs on the ground and lift the pinbox until there is no weight on the hitch. Also when doing a test pull after hooking it should be rather gentle and not jerky.

Panhead, I always do the same as you. Never rough handled the trailer. I think mine was caused by a less than steller weld and rough roads . Roads like I-55 , Miss 49, I-10.

We have a lot of roads out here that are turning into some real cattle trails as well. There have been some very jarring moments for us also. Even though our trailer is not very old I'm constantly looking for cracks at the corners of all the slides and looking at what welds I can see in the pin box area checking for rust in the welds which would indicate cracking.
