2017 North point rear receiver hitch.

Jayco says the rear hitch is only for cargo racks, bikes, coolers, and alike. However I checked it over and it appeared to be connected and welded adequately strong enough to tow an aluminum trailer with a side by side. (1700lbs.)
I tested the doubles on a 140 mile round trip with no issues. I must say I'm a little nervous going 600 miles and having unforeseen fatigue problems.
So has anyone else towed trailers on the rear hitch?? How did you get along?
I see the new North Points have the trailer wires already installed for towing.

Ours has a 300 pound limit per manual. I am not qualified to say how strong enough it is. For '22, they now have a 3000 pound limit and do come with the electrical connector. What changes Jayco has done, I have no idea.

We use to have a NP 315 that I towed doubles with. I had a new hitch welded on for my peace of mind, it was like $400. I had the same thing done with my new trailer even though it was rated for 3k, with my aluminum trailer and side by side I would have been right at or slightly over the 3k.

Both of you are west of the Mississippi, where it is legal to do this in many of the western states. East of the river is a different story. I looked into it, but decided it was not worth the hassle.

Thanks for the reply.
Would we all agree the trailer can handle the doubles if the hitch is beefed up? You'd have thought Jayco would have added 20 extra lbs. So as to handle 3000 lbs. towing.

Iíve towed doubles for quite a few years and havenít had any issues. Just have to know where your going and have your fuel stops planned out. I worry more about the vehicles around me more than anything. Nice part with the aluminum trailer is I can drop that and move it by hand with ease.
