2018 jayco ht 30.5 ckrt

hello all , looking for some feed back on a 2018 Jayco ht 30.5 ck . first off I,m new to this so bare with me . I,m thinking of buying this from a local dealer and was a little concern that it may not mate to my 2017 ford f250 extended cab with the 6.9 bed . the Jayco looks to me a little low to the ground . it has the 15 inch wheels . I already have a b&w patriot hitch . does anyone on here have any input on this ? thanks in advance .

The HT’s generally run slightly nose high with 15” wheels on newer 3/4 ton and up trucks. I had an HT with a Chevy and it was slightly nose high. No issues as a result of that and aesthetically it was subtle. There are two mounting points for the leafs. I had mine moved from the higher hole to lower to bring it up a tad.

thanks txloser , I think the 2016 chevy hd sit lower to the ground then the 2017 ford sd . my bed rail is 59 inches from ground which is pretty high for 5th wheel . we like the Jayco a lot but am concern about being too nose high .

2020 30.5 ckts

I have a 2019 F-250 4x4 Supercab with the 6.9 bed. The trailer has 16” wheels. It sits level for me. But my Demco has 3 height adjustments which is one of the reasons I picked it. I have it set on the middle height. I still have 5.5” of bed clearance. I know this is a bit of apple to orange comparison. If you don’t have a 4x4 and the 15” wheels, you might be a little nose up, but I think you’ll be fine. My bed sits 57” off the ground unloaded.

thanks Nathen , I have the same truck . the only differents is mine is a 2017 and yours is a 2019 . ford must have lowered them a little in 2019 . mine still measured 59 inches to top of rail . I to have the 4x4 , camper package , extended cab . I will be going to the dealership on Friday to see how this mates . I,m thinking I,m going to be 5 to 6 inches nose high . thanks again for the info.

Factory tires

I still have the factory 18” tires on my truck. If you have put new bigger tires on yours that might account for some of the higher bed height. I’m expecting to have to adjust my hitch or the trailer springs when I upgrade to bigger tires to try and keep it Level with enough bed clearance.

If you decide to buy it, and it’s still a little nose high. Get them to move the springs as part of the deal and you could even try to get 16” wheels worked in. Doesn’t hurt to try.

One last thing, it’s just my wife and I with an occasional couple of guests. We love this layout, tons of storage and an extremely usable floor plan. Having all the windows on “your” campsite side and not looking at your neighbors campsite or waste line is a plus.

that's two of many things we love about this unit . not having to move the recliners anymore is another. I to have the stock 18 inch wheels and the rv springs are already set to the lowest setting for max lift . I did try to get the dealer to throw in the 16 inch wheel but he wouldn,t . so I guess our next step is to hook this up to the truck and really see how far off it is . thanks so much for your help

I have a 2020 30.5 CKTS with 16" wheels and a 2019 F-250 4wd Short Bed with 18 wheels. Even with the trailer having 16" tires, I had to set the suspension on the trailer to the lower shackle bolt holes to raise the trailer the 1+ inch I could gain. My concern was more to do with the clearance from the truck bed to the underside of the 5th wheel overhang. I have a B&W companion sliding 16K hitch, which I absolutely love! I still have just over 5" bed clearance with the trailer riding close to level now. I have to be very careful going over sharp humps often found in gas stations etc. The problem is Ford make it's trucks too high for several years.
Of course, they just reduced that height with the new 2020 F-series because there were so many issues with the high beds.
I would take the truck to the dealer, and hitch it up to see what you will experience. Also look at the trailer suspension to see what setting the spring shackles are set at.

thanks for the info nature, I will check the springs on the rv when I get there tomorrow. I,m to worried about bed rail clearance with this rv . I need at least 6 inches of clearance in order to pull into my driveway . my drive is a downhill slope from the road that I live on . my current 5th wheel comes close but makes it fine . I,m thinking the 15 inch wheels are going to be a problem. thanks again for the feed back .

Timone, I kept thinking about your bed height. I went out and remeasured my truck. The 2” difference kept me curious. Mine is 57” at the axle, 56 1/2” at the cab and 59” at the tailgate. So appears to be same as yours. So I sit level with 16” wheels. Don’t know where my springs are cause I never looked and it’s currently in storage. Hope it works for you.

thanks all for the info , just got back from the dealers and it looks like I,m 4 inches off level with 5 inches rail to rv clearance . if I go to 6 inches of rail to rv clearance I will be 5 inches nose high . not sure I,m going to do this . I,m hoping the dealer will kick in the 16 inch wheels but I guess we need to wait and see .

5 inches nose high IMHO is not safe. You want your 5er as level as possible. The towing experience when level is 100% better.

Our Eagle HT shows 2 degrees high at the nose end when hooked up to our Ram/Cummins 2500 4WD. Now this is the short Eagle HT 24.5, which is actually 29.5 feet long. The shorter TT makes for an increased angle.

I have not yet had the suspension set to the lower holes, which would raise the trailer a little, but I will soon.

I'd really like it to be closer to level. If nothing else so we could do quick overnight stops without un-hitching from the truck. As it is now, we are at just a little too much of an angle to do that comfortably.
