2020 347BHOK with 3/4 Diesel.

We are looking to move back to a 5er. Really like this model but it is very close to pin weights on this.

The one configured at my dealer is 2165 lbs hitch, that is with the 2nd AC installed.

My question, is anyone pulling this rig with a new 3/4 ton diesel? We have a 2019 F250 6.7. Cargo is 2250 so I am pushing it a little there.

Spoke with a Jayco rep today at the RV show, he said plenty of people were pulling these with 3/4 ton trucks. Thought I would check that validity of that statement.

Thanks

RR

The problem with 3/4 ton diesels is the relatively low cargo capacity. You will be over on your cargo capacity once your trailer is loaded up, you add the weight of a hitch, and your passengers.

The truck will have no problem whatsoever pulling it but you will be overloaded. My personal opinion is you’ll probably be ok if you get some timbren or airbags to help with the squat. The f250 and f350 SRW are pretty much the same truck with different badges. Heck, Ford offers an F350 with a 10,000 GVWR which in essence makes it an F250.
The “weight police” crowd will have a different opinion on the matter [emoji3]

IMHO you will be over the Rear GAWR. THe pin weight lands almost entirely on the rear axle. The payload is distributed between the axles so a pin weight of 2k and payload of 2k will almost certainly mean the rear axle is overloaded. Our 5th weighs 13k loaded and has 3k of that on the pin. The pin weight will go up as you pack to travel so the advertised weight is just the starting point. The Jayco rep wants you to but, do your own research. If you are buying the TV for the 5th look into a 350, the $ difference is pretty small compared to the overall $.

Just saw that Magnolia checked in on your question. I guess I’m in the “weight police” category, but I do like to “analyze” and you can’t spell it without “anal”.
Be sure to check in with what you do!

Thanks Gents

Yeah I know I would be right at the limits but my GCVWR is within spec even if loaded. That said, I am more worried about pin weight. I do have the SumoSprings 2500 airless 2 piece "bags". I am not a fan of the tembrens but if I did end up going with this set up, I would pull those out and put in air bags with compressor like we had in our 06 F250. I hate the idea of getting the HT line 5er, since they are made to be so much lighter, I feel ike that quality would be a tad lower than on our WhiteHawk. I just hate how they tow.

I too am part of the weight police, I want to be safe...there is one guy on the Pro Pride page that is towing at 29BH WhiteHawk with a Chevy Colorado and b.c he as a ProPride, he thinks that is just fine. Um no sir.

The perfect 5er for us in this class if you will is another brand that I won't mention. I hate to even consider it b.c this is our 4th Jayco and it has been a good unit. I spoke with the Jayco rep on site today and told him they needed a 31 or 32 ft bunk in the Eagle line...he agreed.

I hear what you are saying, and I actually agree with you. If you're over, you're over. But I'm not certain I agree with the idea that he will be over his RAWR. If you add up my front and rear axle weight ratings, it far exceeds my GVWR. I would presume the same for the F-250. He may have 12K of axle under his truck but only 10K of GVWR for manufacturer's advertised purposes. Not saying that going over is right, but that rear axle may be beefy even though he's got a low payload.

Anyone know the implications of being overweight if an accident occurs? Will insurance still cover the damages?

My truck does have the 10K lb towing package with the 3.55 rear so that puts me at the 14,100 5th wheel towable weight. My GCVWR is 25,700lbs. Per the 2019 Ford towing guide and the sticker in the door.

Rear GAWR is 6340 for this truck per the sticker
Front GAWR is 5200 per the sticker.

From my last CAT visit, these are my TV numbers:

1ST Weigh TV

Front: 4820
Rear: 3320

Total 8180

Makes me wonder a little bit b/c the payload sticker shows 2254lbs. But by math there is 3020lbs of difference from rear GAWR and actual weight.

BTW, I am not going with standard 5th wheel hitch this go around. Just going to use the gooseneck ball and the Reese Gooseneck pin box with air ride. Figured I would save at least 100lbs+ there.

What is the GVWR of the truck? Take that number and subtract the actual weight of the truck to give you the available payload. This is why the 3/4 tons have such low payload numbers. Using your method yields higher payload capacity, which is why I said I thought you’d be ok. Not everyone agrees with that method though.

well by that method, my GVWR is 10K and my last Cat visit, I was at 8180 lbs but I also had my Blue Ox Hitch attached to the truck...that yields payload of 1820lbs. Sticker shows 2250 for payload.

That’s the method that the manufacturers use to calculate the available payload.

It doesn't make sense. Why put a sticker in the door with a payload of 2250?

From the factory the truck weighed 7750. With the added weight of the hitch, and any extras not on the truck when it was built, accounts for the lower number now

That is a bummer, we are looking at other brands that have similar products with similar floor plans that weigh much less.

I am worried that the HT series of 5ers isn't on par quality wise as our WhiteHawk.

Wow! The 250 has grown up. Your numbers are very close to my '13 350.
I take back that you may be over the RGAWR.

I have a 2016 Ford F350 SW paired with a 2017 Pinnacle 36 KPTS. Looking to purchase some Timbrens but unsure of what weight to purchase. Any help appreciated.
