2023 Toyota Tundra hybrid

Was at my Toyota dealer recently for regular service of my 2019 Tundra and saw the new hybrid. A V6 hybrid that has a tow rating of 12,000.
We are thinking of a 5th wheel with a GVWR of 10,000 so who thinks the new Tundra would tow the unit without any issues? TIA.

Not me. What’s the payload? It’s still (I assume) a half-ton truck, regardless of the power plant.

The empty weight is under 8,500 payload of 1,500 so it is at 10,000 total.

The payload rating for the truck. That’s far more important than the tow rating.

What's the pin weight of the FW? Normally it's 20% so that is 2,000 so you're 200 over, not including passengers.

Didn’t know the Tundra has a “Hybrid”. If it’s the one with the new V-6 twin turbo do a Google search and read the complaints. Many are having turbo failures and other problems as well. It’s first model year with the V-6 so it remains to be seen what problems will show up in the months to come.

Mine is a ‘17 with the bullet proof V-8 5.7. I’ve seen a lot of Tundra’s pulling travel trailers, 5th wheels not so much.

***Update
OK, just read Toyota’s description of their new 2023 Hybrid. It still uses the V-6 coupled with electric drive motors and batteries to run the motors. Seems like the hybrid system works only at slower speed.

Personally I wouldn’t buy one until I was sure they had all the “Bugs” worked out. I also read that the battery replacement cost is just under $8000 when the warranty runs out. Plus, the weight of the batteries, which are located under the rear passenger seat will eat up a lot of the trucks payload. I think I’ll pass….

I wouldn't tow a 5'er with anything less than a 3/4 ton. Hybrids are still new-ish vehicles and I'm afraid battery power as of now, won't do the job you're hoping for. As the industry sits right now, nothing is outperforming a combustion engine. They can claim high tow caps but the electric/hybrid market isn't there quite yet. Maybe one day, but not now. jm2c
