23.5 rbs brake job.

Hi, I have a 2012 23.5 rbs ht 5th wheel and need to replace the brakes (dexter self adjust). Does anyone happen to know if this trailer uses the 10" or 12" also are there brakes on all 4 wheels or just two? Thanks a bunch.

If you have Dexter axles here’s some contact information. If you’re not sure, there’s a tag on your axle that will contain the information regarding your axle. Make sure you have this information BEFORE contacting Denise. I would bet you have 12” ....

Ok thanks. Yeah they are dexter, well at least the trailer papers say i have dexter easy lube axles and nev r adjust brakes.

Etrailer can match complete brake assembly's by your Jayco model. Comes as a complete backing plate assembly. Everything new.

Thanks for the e-trailer tip. Apparently they are indeed 12" hubs but 10" brakes.

Well after more checking seems I have some Dexter 4.4k, 6-5.5 hub and 4.4k brakes. Seems not to be the most common size.

There will be brakes on both axles. If you pull 1 wheel doesn't matter which one and remove the drum there will be a part # sticker on the brake face. Measure the width of the brake shoe to verify if it is 2" or 2 1/2". There are right and left brakes. Look on Amazon for Southwest Wheel I bought complete brake assy. for all four wheels on a box trailer with Dexter Axles for $162.00 total included with free shipping. All you have to do is remove the old assy (5 bolts I think) disconnect the wires. Then install the new assy. The hookup on the wiring is simple they work with the wires connected either way so you can't wire them up wrong if your're worried about that. Once you put the hub back on you can adjust the brakes (easiest and quickest) or let the brakes self adjust by backing the trailer and applying the brakes several times. This could take several attempts to get them all self adjusted properly. Good luck!
