Hey couple questions, I’m looking to put slide out awnings on my 5th wheel. What is the best brand for awnings and is there anything else I should look into ? I was thinking of going with black awnings so I don’t have to deal with stains that show up on white. Also what does everyone recommend for a wireless backup camera? I have a 2017 F-250 crew cab. Thanks

Hi
I also want to add Slide toppers to our new 30.5 MLOK so will be interested to see what other recommend.

But just got great info on the Furrion Furrion FOS07TASF backup/observation camera from I post I did last week.

Overwhelming good reviews for use with F250.

Backup camera

Thanks, I’ll have to look at that camera. I had looked at TadiBrothers cameras a year ago because they had great reviews but never pulled the trigger. They are half the price of the Furrion but haven’t actually seen one working. Wonder if anyone has tried these?

I highly recommend them. Our 30.5MLOK is our third RV and first with slide toppers. Our last unit did not have them and anytime we closed the main slide (which water liked to pond on), we were mopping up water from the floor.

Now that we have slide toppers, we no longer have any water incursion when opening/closing the slide outs. I no longer cringe when closing up in or after a rain storm.

Highly recommended!

Burchie70, I put slide toppers on my FW about 1-1/2 years ago. Got them from etrailer.com. They were Solera brand toppers and work very well. I installed them myself … it takes 2 people and 2 ladders to do the work. Tip: on any brand of slide toppers, make sure your anchor points are backed by wood. Email Jayco and get a diagram of where the wood is located on the slide(s).

I installed a Tadi brothers backup/observation camera a couple of weeks ago and used it for the first time last weekend. The video, while traveling is fair. It is kinda choppy but the picture quality is good in the daytime. I haven't used it at night. Word of warning: the "cheaper system from them DOES NOT have the wireless transmitter and receiver built into the camera and monitor. The transmitter and receiver are modules separate from the camera and monitor so, if you get this system, you will need to find a place to mount the modules. Without knowing this, I ordered the "cheaper" unit. When I opened the box, I saw this issue and called Tadi … they replaced it with the wireless unit they sell that has the transmitter and receiver built in, at an additional cost to me … about 130 bucks extra.

Another word of caution concerning the Tadi Brothers unit … the camera/monitor can come with built in microphone/speaker. I thought that was cool and ordered mine that way. Well, come to find out, the monitor (where the speaker is located) doesn't have a way to turn off the speaker or adjust the volume. It is noisy and annoying while traveling. I'm going to open the monitor case and see if I can put a on/off switch on the speaker.

That is the one that I sent back. It does not have integrated transmitter and receiver. I swapped it for SKU90113. Its another 150 bucks. Be sure to look at the very top of their Web page and get a discount coupon code. Oh, and BTW, the monitor does not come with a windshield suction cup mount … they are sold separately. The mount that it comes with is designed to screw down onto a flat surface. The 7" monitor is kinda large for a windshield mount, especially if you have a GPS and a TPMS on your windshield already.

My dealer installed Carefree toppers on both slides. Couldn’t be happier with them.

Measurements

I’m getting ready to order my slide out awnings and I have a quick question. One of my slides measures 113” from outside of flange to outside of flange. So I should go with the 120” awning but on one end of my slide out is the regular awning arm which is 3-1/2” from the edge of the flange. If I’m doing it correctly I have 7” over the length of my slide out so it’d be 3-1/2” over hang on each side right ? It seems to me it’ll be real close for the mounting hardware to hit the awning arm. Think there will be enough room ?

The roller/topper awning contains the hardware … at least it does on a Solera awning. The bracket that attaches to the slide face accepts the hardware from the awning/topper. There is plenty of adjustment room to move your awning/topper over enough for the clearance you need. What might happen is that you don't end up with equal amounts of awning/topper over your slide.

Triplebvalp can I ask how you secured the awnings to the RV wall and on the slide out? I ordered the Solera Awnings and some people suggested using the self tapping screws and some said to use rivets. I emailed Jayco like you suggested for a diagram for anchor points but haven’t heard back from them yet
Thanks for all your help

Burchie, I used the screws that were provided. Self tapping. Don't forget to get a roll of Butyl tape. Believe it or not, the cheapest place I found it was at Camping World.

Ok thanks Triplebvalp I was already looking at butyl tape and wasn’t sure if 1”x1/8” thick or 1”x3/16” thick would be better

The 1/8" thick is just fine.

Triplebvalp I just received an email from Jayco service stating that my RV is still under a 2 year warranty by 27 days so they will not release any schematics until it’s out of warranty lol wtf. Wonder if I should start a new thread to see if anyone has schematics on a 2017 ? Unbelievable
