28.5 RSTS Front Cap Getting Painted

Our 2017 28.5RSTS has faded badly in the past three months and got approved for repainting and decal replacement. I first noticed it in April starting at the very top of the cap and has really gotten bad since it was first discovered. Jayco allowed for 14 hours labor which doesn't seem like very much time to sand the cap and repaint it. Seems like that is nothing more than a rough sand and a repaint. But then again I'm no body repairman. The pictures I have enclosed were taken July 2nd and when I looked at it yesterday July 18th it has gotten worse since I took the pics on the 2nd sitting in the hot sun. The caps are very likely manufactured by a third party but it's still very poor quality control on Jaycos engineering, just my opinion

We have a 2013 Eagle 314BDS and we had the same issue. Many others have had the same issue as you and I.

If I remember correctly, my dealer gave us an 18 hour time frame in our repair receipt. Ours was completed Late August 2014 and has been the same perfect condition since the paint job.

I am not sure if they completely sanded it down or enough to remove the clear coat.

Hopefully your repair will yield years of trouble free paint!!

They are and that problem has been manifested across all brands not just JAYCO. Numerous threads addressing the issue over that last few years.

Ours looks to be going into the shop as soon as the first week in August. The decals have been shipped and I was told by the shop that as soon as they are recieved work will begin. And the cap probably is just roughed up for the paint to be applied.

We are also having the issue with the front cap fade. We purchased new 1 1/2 yrs ago. Our dealer has been great at trying to get the issue resolved but Jayco will only provide $1800 to the dealer as a "good faith" offer (trailer has to go to a body shop and dealer is not making any money on this repair). That's not enough to repair - at least not here in California. And how is it a "good faith" offer when the trailer is under the 2 yr manufacturer warranty - it's their responsibility.

We were looking at our 2017 28.5 RSTS today and noticed that our front cap is also fading in several spots to where it really looks dull. I guess we’ll contact our dealer and see if we can have it taken care of when we winterize instead of cutting into our camping time.

I have a 2018 28.5 RSTS and it's going to the dealer middle of month for the same thing.

Picked up our 28.5RSTS from the shop and looks pretty good. If anyone has fading get it documented with Jayco and have it taken repainted under warranty.

I can’t understand why Jayco won’t go ahead and prep / paint the caps properly at the factory. It would likely be less $ than $1,800. I guess the bean counters ran the numbers and decided otherwise. [emoji849]

I also have this problem (within the first year of ownership) and do not understand how they get away without paying for the full repair. I work as a tech at Peterbilt there are multiple times a week we are paid less to do a job than the job takes. We are required to perform these repairs by Peterbilt part of our franchising agreement. It is also why you can take your Peterbilt to any dealer in the country and get warranty work done. This works the same for any vehicle you get. The RV industry needs to do the same. What needs to be done? There has got to be some way to hold them to there 2 yr full warranty.

Dang, this thread ruins my day! We are looking at getting a used Jayco in this model. I saw a video with the salesman saying the caps were painted in automotive paint. But they must be the gelcoat like our 2016 Wildcat. It faded badly in less than 2 years and Forest River ignored me since we were the 2nd owners. I spent $2600 out of pocket to have the factory gray repainted two-tone like the 2017's. I DO NOT want to do that again...
