Yes, Yes, Yes get the 50 amp with 2nd air.
I live in hot AZ and when you arrive at your destination the inside of the unit
is very hot so you need both airs on. After it cools you can go back to
one unit.
The only problem is the 50 amp cord is very heavy and when cold hard
to handle. If you are leaving and have that problem I just wrap it around
the 5th wheel hitch in the bed of the truck.
I also carry a lighter cord, 50 amp rv side to 30 amp park power (1/2 the weight)
Most of the time that is all I use. It also works at home because I only have a 30 amp plug. No problem just run one ac at a time.

Went in to look at 2 2018 27.5's yesterday at the local dealer. One has the 2nd A/C factory installed, the other is prepped. Both the wife and I liked the trailer without the A/C better - the cashmere sofa/recliners are infinitely more comfortable than the chestnut furniture in the trailer with the 2nd A/C. Dealer said he could install the 2nd A/C in the bedroom with the controls right on the unit for about $1000. That's where we are at the moment.

If it's prepped for a/c the wiring is there for a wall mounted thermostat and a ducted unit. Obviously the dealer is clueless. Price is definitely not at cost.

Right from the JAYCO option list:

Ducted 2nd 15k A/C in Bedroom (Requires 50 Amp Service) (25.5REOK, 30.5CKTS, 30.5MLOK, 29.5BHDS, 28.5RSTS, 29.5FBDS, 29.5BHOK, 24.5CKTS, 30.5MBOK, 26.5RLDS, 27.5RLTS)

If it does not have 50 amp service, you will regret it later on.

Its the 50 amp service you need. You could always add the air later
but not change to 50 amp. You also need the 50 amp generator.
I also noticed that 50 amp is required for the fireplace.
This is the best thing I had on my 5th wheel. Use the rv park
elect. not your propane.

I know you have your heart set on this model but some times slide
outs on both side can be a problem in older park's. Be sure before
you buy look at the unit with both slides in. Can you get at the
kit with the right slide in? How about stopping at a rest stop
with trucks on both sides?
I learn the hard way I bought my first 5th wheel that had these nice
chairs at the back. When I picked it up I discovered one of the chair's
had to be placed in the isle to make room for the slide.

Also don't let them tell you about a automatic switch that's let you
run 2 airs on a smaller gen. I had one and it never worked when
I need it. It takes forever trying to cool down an rv after driving
out west or some place like TX.

The best thing about an RV is when you are tired you can always stop
at a rest stop or sometimes Walmart for a couple of hours of sleep.
This is great because you do not have to cross a large city during
rush hour.

Two airs without 50 amp is kind of a waste.

Not sure what you mean. It's prepped so the wiring is there, but the dealer and I didn't talk about controlling from the unit as opposed to thermostat-controlled. It was just a preliminary discussion with some general numbers tossed around. If we decide to go the 2018 route we'll have more specific talks. We're also considering buying a 2019 off another dealer's lot for $3500 more, or maybe ordering a 2019 for about another $1000 over that.

Now how would I know what is "cost". I realize the dealer pays less than the MSRP for an A/C unit but is there a general rule of thumb for figuring what his cost is? Because he surely isn't going to offer up that information.

Remote thermostat wiring is in the wall and runs up to the ceiling vent where a/c would go. No need for ceiling mounted controls.

if the dealer really wants the sale he would show you his cost price.

Thanks Grumpy. The trailer is already pretty heavily-discounted being as how it's a 2018 but I will go down that road with the dealer. Probably only a difference of a few hundred dollars but that's still a lot of gin

If the second is available and you have thoughts of spending time traveling in the deep south I'd get the 2nd A/C. There will be the added cost of the 2nd A/C, wiring and upgraded converter but you'll be glad you have it when the 1 A/C can't keep up with 100+ degree temperatures in the southern U.S. during the summer.

I own a 2016 jay flight 38fdds. The camper is at my seasonal site on Cape Cod. I have the single 15k unit. My trailer is BIG.. It does an adequate job of cooling even in mid 80's temps. Get the thermal package. It helps retain the cool air inside. The key is to turn it on early AM.. if it's real hot out, don't try to play catch up mid day.. . My site is only 30 amp, so I couldn't use a 2nd unit even if I had one..

I bet you can get it installed for 600 or 700... also consider asking for the low profile model. It will cost little extra but will keep your height down. Wheel and deal with the dealers, I got last years lot model for my 2017... I was around 45% off MSRP. Really good deal as I have a relationship with the dealer as they own the truck lot that I buy a lot of trucks for my consutruction company from but you should atleast get 35% off msrp. Dont be afraid to beat them up as RVs are pretty high margin product.

Oof!...just received a quote on a 2019 27.5RLTS from a dealer about 2 hours away. 50 amp, 2nd air conditioner from the factory, rear electric jacks, 16" Goodyears, fireplace, Morryde Orbital box. Dealer taking off 31% of the total price. Only bad thing is it's Modern Farmhouse, which my wife calls "ladies colors"

If they can give you 31% off on a lot model than they can give you 31% off on a special order and you get it exactly the way you want it. The dealer I purchased my North Point from gave me the exact same discount on a special order.

That's exactly how I want it with the exception of the color. However, that's EXACTLY how my wife wants it So...

If you get the second AC, is your primary AC still ducted to the bedroom? My concern would be camping at a 30amp site and not being able to run BOTH AC units and not getting cooler air in the front bedroom.

There are lots of places we camp where they only offer 30amp service. When we bought our current camper, I wasn't able to find any that were 50 amp with 2 AC's, even though it was an option. Being concerned about the possibility of not having a duct to the bedroom from the primary unit is what caused us to get a single 15K unit.

We camp all summer and have been in some heat. We were in Tennessee last August and it was hot and humid all week. The AC struggled some in the daytime (temps in the upper 70's) but kept it reasonable for us. We blocked the windows to reduce solar heat gain and it was okay. We camp to be outside during the day anyways, so we were fine with the higher daytime temps.

I bought my camper at about 35% off of MSRP. Jayco lists MSRP on their site, so you know what it is. At 35% off MSRP, my dealer made enough money to justify the sale. That should give you a general idea of a fair price for you and your dealer.

Exactly... especially because they are paying interest on a loan for the camper sitting on the lot, and wouldn't be paying any interest on a special order that you take possession of immediately.

Yes, the primary is ducted to the bedroom. We've been in some very hot climates and have not needed to use the bedroom AC. I did Magnolia Tom's mod on the duct vents and it dramatically increased the air flow. Here's the link to his mod:
