321 RSTS front AC hits tree limb

We bought a 2018 321 RSTS EagleClick image for larger version

ID:	48337 and we had a 14 foot tall x 44 feet long and maybe 24 wide.
Disappointed the camper would not fit in the RV carport due to its height. I had to spend another 2800.00 to have it raised by 18 inches in height.

Now the horror story. We are in Charleston SC at the James Island County campground. A mile or so before the campground entrance while on a S.C. DOT highway Riverland Driive we hit a oak tree that was hung out over the road, nearly took off the front AC. Cracked the interior ceiling, shifted the AC unit almost 2 inches on the roof and distorted the housing and evaporator coils and more.

So now what? I have a tarp over it so rain want do further damage. My point is I had heard the Jayco had gone to a low profile AC unit to stay in height concerns. I would love to figure a way to get a call from Jayco, so we can figure out what to do now.

The carport was one thing but this tree on the S.C. highway is another. I have photos of all damage, tree and how camper rides on the 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500 truck . Looks good and not front high.
Leaving in 2 weeks for Baton Rouge and if it leaks I am in Trouble. Ideas on what to do? Can it come off and patch the hole temporarily? It may not leak but can’t see why not.
Only home from nnext Monday to the following Sunday and headed back out. Need a fast fix. Won’t need the ur yet but need a non leak
Ideas?Click image for larger version

I believe that there is a gps system that has height routing for oversize loads. Might be a help to you in the future.

Hope your insurance covers this, might even be a total.

Don't let your insurance rip you off. Get a firm estimate and make sure that if there is hidden damage your claim can be adjusted.

Are you sure the dealer didn't add the a/c. JAYCO started using the low profile MACH 8 years ago. That's what came on our 2015. JAYCO spec is 13'6' with bedroom a/c.

I'm with Grumpy. That is not a low profile AC. May not have prevented the problem but it is best to stay under 13'6". This is probably a insurance claim. Look closely for other damage in other parts of the trailer.
Really sorry about this for you. Please keep us updated on how things go.

I'm always on a look out for low tree limbs and steer clear of them.

What's your height?

I'd replace it will a low profile unit. Lot cheaper than the cost of rasing your carport. They run under a grand. About half the height.

Earl

The Eagle line doesn't use low profile units. Not even an option. Up to 2018 at least.

Not true on the low profile air in front. I ordered a 2019 Eagle 321RSTS and it came with a standard air in front. I hooked up level and measured it at 13’9”. I called Jayco and told them I was over the legal limit and they authorized my dealer to put a low profile AC in the front. Allot of 2019’s traveling down the road over the legal limit. I see now in the new Jayco literature that they are installing the low profile AC from the factory. Not sure when that started but all prior build have a standard AC up front.

Agree Earl and already raised carport as I didn’t know they made a low profile. Camper was only a month old then. Tree came up on us quickly and no way on these narrow Charleston roads to run out of the lane. Insurance will help fix and will see if I can order one in the morning and beg for a fast install
Since it cracked my ceiling inside I can just pray it didn’t mess up the roof. Have a couple small holes I can put patches on. What gets me is Jayco knew they were over height so I am hearing.
Any ideas on how to reach Jayco and maybe they have offers and suggestions

Surprising since they spec it at 13'6" with the front a/c option.

I'd get your dealer involved ASAP and have them call JAYCO too.

I found the number on the Jayco web site. Ask for customer service and have your vin number handy. Calling gets faster results than the email.
Good luck.

Yep, we just ordered our 321rsts a couple weeks ago and the order sheet showed “Ultra-low profile second AC 2nd A/C”.
