321RSTS Dining slide won’t move.

My dining slide, not the schwintec, won’t open. I can here the motor, but nothing moves. Any hints. This is a new one on me.

Only a thought... Open the Access panel in the coroplast and take a look. I suspect either a sheared pin or the gear issue
Double check you have 12 volts as well.

The pin I bet. Is that any easy fix? There’s an RV dealer near by I get it from if necessary. I’ll look real soon.

It is likely a bit of a pain to reach.
You may want to add another door right under the motor once you take a peek. When I looked at mine I was lubbing the rails. They where full of grit. Took two cans of lube to get the squeal out of them. Been quiet ever since.
Just cut door with 3 sides hinge to front. Then clean coroplast with soap and water let dry andgorilla tape it closed

Well, that was fun. Found that motor laying on top of the chloroplast. Two tiny screws hold it on and both screw holes were stripped out. The one trip I don’t bring my power drill…. Off to Home Depot for a drill so I can open the slide and hopefully close again.

I don’t think that motor had a chance at longevity being mounted behind wheels. Probably gets slung around pretty good and no support. Just two tiny screws that don’t even thread very deep.

So did you need a second door or could you reach it?

The panel was really huge underneath. I actually sat with my head up in the belly. What i could’ve used was a panel in the floor from inside. It was tedious trying to blindly use an open wrench the undo the bolt on top to remove the motor from the shaft. Then I had to put it back on so I can open manually.

This morning with 1hr to go before checkout I grab my drill, drop the panel, and prepare to bring in the slide. Drill won’t do it. Wrench and socket won’t do it. I’m by myself. I ended up holding the motor on by hand and using the remote app to bring it in. A tip should this happen to anyone else.

On an unrelated funny note, there’s nothing like trying to exit the campground on tight roads, up and down hills when all of the sudden you hear the dog starting to puke and there’s not a thing you can do. Good times this trip.

321RSTS Dining slide won’t move.

One more item…. I get the slide. Get the bottom buttoned up. I was using my phone as a light in the belly. Guess where the phone was.

That’s RV’ing. Fortunately it’s not always like that. Still enjoyed myself and wish I was back out there today.

Not yet. I got the slide in last trip and secured the motor with zip ties up in the belly for the ride home. I wanted the gearing portion still attached for the drive home. Don’t think it would move out in transit, but seemed like a good guarantee.

This week when I get home from work, I’ll pull the whole motor assembly to be sure I’m ordering the correct one online and then fix it. I found it odd there was no sign of loc-tite on these tiny little screws. Seems there would be. Either that or they just weren’t tight from the factory. Kind of a one off as I’ve never read of this issue, and I have a bit of a forum problem so I’d have read of it.

The motors are over $500 at e-trailer. I’d love to fix this one since everything works except the screws came out, but with no threading for the screws now I think I’m screwed. Pun intended.

If it happens to ours I would be thinking about drilling and tapping a new set of threads and blue loctite the new screws in. Save the $500.00.

Never done that. Maybe something to consider. Worse case scenario I mess it up and have to buy another anyway. I’m guessing I can just buy a kit at a big box store.

Find a good machine shop or buy a kit.
Harbor freight will have cheapy sets. Usually have a tap and die to drill size chart and what lube to use for each metal type. Go slow turn in a little back out. It clears the tap so you get full depth threads.
You might want to buy a cheap micrometre to validate the size of existing holes.

My Dad was a machinist so easy option for me.

Yes, this is what I did working at Boeing I was a tool maker and we drill and tap new threads all the time I was at Boeing for 35 years so I learned a lot of things over the years.
