377 suspension shock question

Taking some long trips next year, through some areas of the country notorious for poor roads.

I'm thinking of adding shocks to my 2018 377.

First, for those that have done it, what kits do you recommend?

Second, what improvements should I notice from adding shocks? Simply less wear and tear on the camper, or will I also notice an improved towing experience?

Thanks in advance

I just saw a video on YouTube last night showing the new Sumo Springs for towable RVs. You might check them out. Installation was super simple.

I had the Roadmaster shocks installed and they make a huge difference in the ride and towing. The wheels stay on the ground on bumpy roads......because of that the towing is very much improved. I said it before............I wish my TV absorbed the bumps as good as my 5er does.

I added shocks to my previous TT, can't say I noticed a difference. I just suffered a leaf spring failure on my 2017 355MBQS 5th wheel. That has got me thinking about a whole new suspension. As my brother pointed out while helping me replace the leaf spring in a gravel parking lot 2 hours from my house, my $50k camper is riding on $26 leaf springs. Thinking about going to this https://timbren.com/silent-ride/

See here.... https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Lea...TSR14KT01.html $1000 for the 14k rated. Summit Racing might have been cheaper, don't remember.

What angle were your shocks? Shocks only function if at specific angles. If it was another brand besides Roadmaster Comfort shocks, that would be the issue. Comfort shocks are the only kits on the market that will put the shocks at the working angle they need.

Interesting! Unfortunately they require being welded to the frame, a welded cross member between the two unita and welded to the axle tubes. Also you must cut off the spring perches from the axle tubes as well. Pretty in-depth. Definitely not a dyi kit. Also not easy to go back to a standard spring hanger.

Timbren system is interesting, but as Mopar_Earl pointed out, a lot of retrofitting work needs to be done, it’s more cost and work than I’m interested in.

AKRUEBBE, what’s involved with the install of the Roadmasters? I assume bridge expansion joints are softened up considerably with them installed?

I just finished installing a set of Loadmaster shocks on our 2018 Eagle 321RSTS. The installation was pretty straight forward and I did it alone. (I'm 64 so no spring chicken here!). I have not been able to tow the rig except back to storage so I can't comment on the ride just yet. I do have one suggestion if you plan to install these shocks.

The upper bracket that attaches to the frame has 4 holes...2 are oblong to allow adjustment of the brackets. There is a small amount of room for the shock to clear the leaf springs. I would drill the holes for the oblong bracket first. Place the bracket and attach the shock to see if you need to move the bracket for clearance. Once the shock is placed and clear of the leaf spring, drill the other two holes to complete the attachment of the bracket. I had an issue with one bracket/shock that required drilling 2 extra holes. I used a good quality 12" 5/16" drill to drill the holes. Drilling is by far the most difficult aspect of this installation. We are making a trip next month so I hope to get a good result from the shocks. I've also installed a 5th Airborne hitch on the RV to help further.

I'll try to remember to report back once we take a trip. Hope this helps.

Lowmiler, I had a very experienced RV performance shop install them. I figured it wasn't in my bailiwick. They did an excellent job and it took one person about 2 1/2 hours. They did weld the upper shock brackets instead of bolting them. I'll say it again...........I wish my TV absorbed the bumps as well as my 5er does!!

So can anybody link me to a kit? Etrailer doesn’t even have Jayco listed as a manufacturer and their customer service rep keeps insisting I provide her with a “frame number” in order to help. LOL!

Not sure what I’m supposed to looking at there, I don’t see shocks. 2018+ North Points come stock with a MORryde suspension system, CRE-3000.

Excellent! I like how the Roadmasters are designed to be mounted inboard. The posts Tom made in the 377 Mods thread had me hesitant to add shocks. He chose the Lippert kit and boy did that look like a tight fit on his rig.

I assume your installer cut back the coroplast to allow the top of the shocks to clear? Feel any drafts?

Actualiy, looking at the photo you posted above the coroplast isn’t cut, unlike in the video. Hmm, wonder if yours are at the right extended length?

Aaaand, never mind. This video answer all the extended length and clearance questions. I’m sure your installers installed them correctly.

Yes, they did a great job and I have the utmost trust in their work. It was an install that was way over my abilities!
Also the install has a lot to do with whether your axles are over or under. Mine or over the springs.

Moreryde makes a complete bolt on kit that matches up to your suspension system.
