I have a 2105 F-350, with the 6.7. It pulls beautifully, uphill and engine brake downhill. Never had a problem. The only time I wanted a dually was on a mountain pass after an ice storm. Cruised 25-35mph for about 35 miles without an issue.

Summitsrev I think your Actual pin is 3740.

TV & Trailer --------------------12820
TV (no trailer)--------------------9080
12820-9080=3740

120# extra on front and 3620 on back

Total trailer is 15,560#

3740÷15560= 24%

I think a lot of numbers.

Interesting thread. We just ordered a 377RLBH (no generator) and plan to tow it with our 2017 F-350 SRW CCLB w/ the 6.7 PS. I realize that we are likely to be over the payload on the truck but trading up for a DRW is simply not an option right now. Glad to hear that others are having success with this setup.

We plan to get a Curt Q20 hitch setup and will consider air bags as well. Would love to hear others positive or negative outcomes with a similar setup.

I stayed away from traditional 5ver hitches given payload is at a premium with a SRW and 377 kingpin weight.

Bzeller - What setup did you end up with and what was your thought process? We have not yet ordered the tow setup... We have the OEM puck system in the bed.

I have the puck system as well, but didn't end up using it. I ended up with the Andersen Ult 5th wheel hitch. So far, its been flawless and I like how light it is for removal (~35 lbs). I did quite a bit of research on it and it was very difficult to find anyone that had negative things to say about it. My entire goal was to reduce the payload hit a traditional fifth wheel hitch carries. That being said, had I known about it when purchasing, I would have taken a hard look at the Reese Goose Box as well. Has many of the same advantages WRT to payload, but has a couple additional advantages in that there is no bed accessory other than the gooseneck ball AND its approved by Lippert. Only a 1-2 minute deal to take out the Andersen hitch if you want full use of your bed, but then you have to store it somewhere whereas the Goose Box is permanently attached to the 5ver. I'm not overly concerned with the Andersen affecting my Lippert warranty and they do provide a supplemental policy as well, but there would be an obvious advantage to the Goose Box if there was an issue that could be attributed to your hitch since Lippert has signed off on the GB and not Andersen.

In my personal opinion these new trucks are Strong and Stout . The tires are going to be the limiting factor.
On the rear axle
LT275/70R18 3640# each for 7280#
LT275/65R20 3750# each for 7500#

You can go with some aftermarket tries
LT295/70R18 4080# each for 8160#
LT295/65R20 4080# each for 8160#

I have a NP377 and usually tow it with my 2012 f350 and it does great. But I'm inspecting in west Texas and didn't want to drive my welding rig out here to get beat up on the back roads so I drove my 2006 2500 duramax. I actually went and picked this trailer up with it and it pulls it as good as my ford. So I wouldn't be scared to tow it anywhere with this truck. I think some people overthink about towing a big 5th wheel. Heck if someone pulled out infront of me don't matter what Im towing it with they prolly gonna get run over. The drw trucks use the same motor, brake pads and size of rotors, springs, and such as the f250 or single rear wheel 350. Some just have the taller block and overload spring on top. But even with that most everyone uses airbags, Timbren's, or super springs to help with the tongue weight. I ain't gonna get rid of this 2500 just cause someone says it shouldn't tow this camper.

My experience is with a 2012 f350 with just over 3500 lbs. ccc. On the scales I was just over truck GVWR by 200 and roughly the same on ccc and 500 over on GCVWR. The rear axle has 6700 with a rgawr of 7000 and pin weight of 3400. My unit is about 1’ longer than the 377. We have loaded light and put all heavy gear in back of camper to reduce pin weight. I think this has contributed to the tail wagging the dog some. The 377 storage is up front so more is applied to pin. You may look at rawr. My rear axle weight is 3300.

We wanted to try towing for a year and see if we were comfortable. After a year of towing I have had a couple of white knuckle experiences. 99.9% of the miles were very comfortable and all on flat terrain. The .1% has convinced me to go with a DRW.

Also to keep weight down our kids have drivers license and always went separate. The DRW solves that problem.

Can the truck tow it ? Yes. It is the operators decision on how much to push the limits.
Can a DRW have a white knuckle experience? Yes but chances are decreased.

Good luck. This kind of stuff can make you loose sleep or it did me.

I really don't want a dually. I am looking to buy a 2018 F-350 diesel with the Lariat package. Max payload is about 3200. I will only be carrying myself and minimal gear in the truck, but with an advertised pin weight of 2700 pounds I will be close to the max. Not sure how much the ACTUAL loaded pin weight will be but that may push me over the limit.

thanks

Matt

What about the liability issue. God forbid you have an accident pulling this big rig with an under-rated truck. The insurance company lawyers would have you for lunch.
I pull my Jayco Pinnacle 36FBTS with a 2016 Chevy 3500 DRW after I determined my 2014 Ford F-350 SRW would be overloaded.
