3rd A/C in larger 5th Wheels

I am interested in the North Point 387 rdfs. I notice that it has the option of a 3rd A/C unit in the living area. Living in the hot climate down south, that may be something to consider.

I do have a question about this option. Can all 3 units run at the same time on 50 amps?

I have a 2018 Seismic with 1 drop-in A/C unit in the garage, 1 heat pump A/C central unit in the family room and 1 A/C central unit in the master br. I am able to run all 3 at the same time on 50 amps.

Are you able to run all three with the on board generator? If so what size is your generator?Much additional noise from the AC,s.

I recently saw a TH (non-Jayco) with 3 A/C units recently and it had a 50A cord and a second power cord (20A?) that I assumed was powering the 3rd unit. The connection appeared to be factory. I may be wrong about the use of the 2nd power cord but it's the only use I could figure.

I have the same unit. After spending 2 weeks at Myrtle Beach for July 4th this year we would not have needed one. Our 2nd AC is in the bedroom. We stayed very comfortable. I would doubt you could run 3 ac’s with the residential fridge.

Agree...our 2 A/C' in our 40' 5ver are enough in the warmest weather we've been in and that's the low 100's.

We have a 2018 Designer 42 foot 5th wheel with 3 ac units and residential fridge. Unfortunately I don’t have a direct answer for you. We were out camping recently in on 90+ heat and didn’t feel the need to run all 3 units at once if that helps. Granted We’re were in the Chicago area and the sun isn’t quite a strong this time of year. I would try it but we dropped it off for service. We only have a 50 amp plug.

I'd probably get it. We have two AC in our smaller unit and they run all day when the desert temps are over 100F (in direct sun all day). When it got to 105 on day the inside temp was over 80.

A friend of mine has a DRV fifth wheel with three A/C units. He is able to run all three with a Honda EU6500is generator.

I used to say we would not stay someplace that got below freezing or over 100. Family medical issues squashed that. Have now been in over 105F and in the teens.

Depends on the amp draw of the three units. I believe mine run at 15 amps on low and 22 amps on high. So in theory you could run all 3 on low, but you would be very limited on what else you could power on when they are running. I don't see how 3 units on low could have any better cooling than 2 units on high.

The risk would be losing a fuse or throwing a breaker if you are overdrawn when the third unit kicks on.

I really don't think a third one is necessary. I camp in Georgia and two units have kept my 5er nice and chilly.

Two AC units will will maintain an adequate temperature in most RVs. In my opinion the reason the third AC is available in larger units is to get the first cool down. It takes quite a bit to cool an RV after pulling down a hot highway.

A 15K AC unit from what I have seen pulls about 13 to 14 amps running. A 50 amp RV plug actually supplies two separate legs of 50 amps so it is actually 100 amps of service going to the RV. A 30 amp only supplies one leg of 30 amp. You should have no problem at all running 3 AC units on a 50 amp service.

That if the pedestal is wired that way. My 50 amp plug has 2 blue leds in it. Some campgrounds only light one, some light both. I’m assuming that mine can run on 50/120 and 50/240. And those lights are telling me what’s going on.

Two AC's have been plenty for us. Been in 107 degree temps and it cooled the rig down. It took about 2 hours to get it cool though but it wasn't bad. I am pleased. Enjoy and Happy Camping.

I'd definitely want 3 ac units on a large 5th wheel. My 35' two slider has dual and they do great but I wouldn't want just two on a large 4 or 5 slide unit. Especially in humid areas. In my state it's very common to have 90 to 100% humidity at any temp. Nothing like sweating at 60/70 degrees due to humidity.

Yes, a good 50a service will run all three units as you'd have 50 amps per leg for a total of 100 amps to the trailer.

Same here. In the desert SW when the temps get over 100F and the sun is beating down on the rig two 15k AC units will struggle on our little 35ft trailer.

FWIW, Coleman's website shows that one 15k unit will pull around 2000W in desert heat.
