40 foot length limit in most states.

A few weeks ago I picked up my new North Point 377 and love it. I was just looking at size limitations and most states have length limit of 40 feet. My new trailer is 42.7 so I am a little concerned. Has anyone ever had a problem with these limits?

I seriously doubt that would ever be enforced. Plus that length is probably measured from the rear hitch of the vehicle and your 5th wheel hangs over the bed a good 4 feet so you're good to go.

We're just under 40' and wouldn't want to be much bigger in the MA park we've been to. The roads were ok, but the sites are short, to the point that I was blocking the road while hitching/unhitching. There is no parking on the grass in the parks so getting the truck positioned properly on the site was a challenge

I'd be more concerned about clearance than lenght! Measure it and know it! But doesn't do any good if you don't pay attention to low clearance signs lol

Kind of makes you wonder how they get them out of the factory with a 40' limit in Indiana...

I have read a few of these and I believe that the length is measured from the hitch to the rear axle. I was a little concerned after we bought our North Point as well. I have never seen anyone pulled over and a State Trooper walking around with a tape measure.

Yeah I get it. I am not going to stop pulling or be nervous. Like everything nothing matters until it matters. It is like GVWR. 70% or more of people pulling 5th wheels are over their limit and I've only heard of people in California getting in trouble. I was just curious to see if anyone had seen any enforcement with length restrictions.

I guess we are more concerned with finding camping sites that can accommodate this big beast!! Ugh
How do you like hour North Point? We are trading in our 2011 Montana...Montana use to be high quality but they have slid down the scale...Just hoping we made the right decision!

Love our north point so far. Last year traded an airstream in for an open range light. It was a decent trailer but the quality was lacking. Had it for 8 months and saw a north point while camping in key west. Decided it was more in line with what we were looking for so we traded the open range in on a 377.

Have been booking sites for trips this summer and haven't had any issues finding sites.

Great to hear! We are anxious for ours to come of the line as they made a lot of nice changes to the 2018 387RDSF.....After we ordered it, the terror set in on the towing aspect ! Lol

We have not tried a National Park or a State Park. I have yet to find a private RV Park that would not take us.

Excellent! Almost nothing worse, I can imagine, than finding sites that can accommodate those of us with larger rigs....Thanks so much for your input....You helped to relieve the stress level! Lol. [emoji3]

What's the length that you're towing?
I did hear that State parks can be a challenge to accommodate the larger rigs....

There has been a few times I have thought to myself that it is way too much trailer, but after we set up at camp we love it. Take your turns wide and keep an eye on over-head clearance and you will be fine. If the tractor trailer can make it, then I can as well. I have learned to be a little strategic with planning pull-offs from the interstate. I usually stick to the big truck stops for fuel and food. We went from a 20' travel trailer to this and there was a little bit of a learning curve. I highly recommend a rear view camera. It really helps with backing up and knowing when you can change lanes as well.

If you read the laws, you will find that the 40' max is from connection point to rear most axle center line. I asked the same question, shortly after I ordered my 377!
