50 Amp Extension Cord

Hello! Can someone tell me what the danger is with running a 50amp extension cord? I've overheard a few people talk about running too long of a cord is a fire hazard or something..? What is the maximum length?

I've currently got a 30ft cord, but I'm not sure it will reach to the generator in the truck. Was going to try and find a 50amp cord (side note - can't seem to find one with the same "twist lock" that the factory jayco cord came with - is that an issue?), but was thinking I would have to settle for another 30 foot and connect them together.

Is that an issue? Am I going to set something on fire?

Thanks!

You will be fine as long as the cord is properly sized. #8 will have a 3.8V drop at 60ft fully loaded to 50Amps. #6 = 2.4V drop @ 50Amps

As far as fire hazards go you are fine there too as long as the cord is run so it can dissipate the heat (ie. sized for the load, not coiled, run in the shade instead of direct sun)

Also, you can get an adapter from twist-lock to straight blade and its not an issue.
