5th Wheel Gen prep transfer switch wiring

I install a Onan generator on my Jayco with the gen prep factory installed. I have everything setup except the transfer switch has a red, black, white, and ground wires but my Onan gen only has a black, white, and green(ground wire). Why does the transfer switch have a red and black wire in junction box from the transfer switch? Thanks

Is your unit a 50-amp unit with 2 A/C units? Sounds like the wiring from a 30-amp generator going into a 50-amp RV.

It is a 50 amp with 1 AC unit. Can I hookup the white from gen to white at transfer switch and then hookup red and black from transfer switch to the black generator?

I am unqualified to make any recommendation, I would strongly suggest you consult with a qualified technician with proficiency in RV electrical systems. They are different than "sticks and bricks" systems in some respects.

What is the rating of the generator you have? Does it have just a single circuit breaker on the generator panel?

Sounds like you have a 120 Volt generator and your camper is wired for 220 Volts. You can probably wire the black from generator to the black and red of transfer switch but will not have enough power to run everything in RV.

How many breakers and what amps are they on the Onan? Is it a 5500?

A very small generator for a 50-amp rig. It has a single "hot" wire where a larger generator would have 2 hot legs.

You will be severely limited in what you can run. It may struggle to start even your one AC, if it will at all.

There's the issue. Should be a 5500 Onan with two breakers and two blacks. You will have to pick which side of the load panel you want to power. So Onan black to either the red or black. But I don't know if the transfer switch will pull in. You may have to attach the onan black to both the black and red. You won't power much with a 2500. The trailer is designed for a 5500. The 2500 made for the compartment? The 5500 pulls fresh air and cooling air through the bottom.

Is your single AC unit a 15,000 BTU unit?

Definitely too small and trying to make it work is not a good idea.
