5th wheel tongue
Does anyone know what the factory spec for tongue weight is? I recently purchased a 98 eagle 263 rks. And I would like to know what the tongue weight is.

No I don't but the factory spec only estimated the cargo carrying capacity. Best method is to take it to a scale and measure it. That way you know.
You may find someone with the specs one but that would take some online work. I doubt Jayco has any archives that go back to 98.
On edit: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/10...page=27#manual This may be a start.

The published hitch weight is an estimate and is not accurate. It's value is to help customers match their tow vehicle to an appropriate camper. Since you already made the purchase, you can achieve the real, and accurate, weight onto your truck bed by visiting one of the local CAT Scales near you.
The typical cost is around $12 to weigh both your 5th wheel and your truck. Then you'll pay another $2 to weigh only the truck (park your 5th wheel in their parking lot for this weigh).
Then visit this website and enter the numbers that the CAT Scale provided and you'll get all the numbers you need, included the weight delivered through the kingpin.
This is the link to CAT Scale locator: https://catscale.com/cat-scale-locator/
You should check the amount on each axle, the total combined weight of everything too... these are important numbers.

The dry weight is 6785. I figured if I knew the factory tongue weight, I would know how to load. Scale is 80 miles away. So, I wanted to attempt a starting point ahead of time.

I couldn't find the published hitch weight. I'm curious as to what it is. Where can I find it. I could only find dry weight.

I found some estimates on the 2000 263RKS, see below.
You can also download Jayco's brochure from 2000.

If a CAT scale is a long ways away, try you local gravel company, the one near me does not charge to weight my rig.

That weight is around 25% of the weight of the 5th so for you that’d be roughly 1700#.

I bought the Curt Better Weigh module and have found it fairly accurate meaning it's great for estimates.

Interesting Gadget!
Interesting, I never knew there was such a thing!
One reviewer stated it detected a 30# LP tank placed in his truck bed.
Amazon reviews aren't too good....

Our local Farmers coop has a scale and they have weighed my last 3 5th wheels for free. 1st weigh the whole thing truck & camper.
2nd pull the truck off the scale and weigh just the camper
3rd unhook the camper and just weight the truck.
With a little math you can get the pin weight or tongue weight of the camper. If it's a camper weigh it with the equalizer hitch loaded up.
Good luck and happy camping. God bless!

It uses your OBD II port. 99% of the time it recognizes the vehicle it's attached to without having to manually set it up. Wirelessly sends info to your smart phone. It detected my weight when I sat on my tailgate within 4 lbs. I weigh 192 and it showed 188. Not as accurate as a cat scale however it's close enough to insure you are not way overweight and that tongue or pin weights are within the margins of safety. To me it was a bargain @ $99.

That's impressive. Didn't know all that information was in vehicles. I ordered one to try out.
Thanks for the info.
