7000 lb axles

I'm sure this has been discussed but can't find it.
Help me understand this issue.
I have a 2016 North Point. The GVWR of 14,995 lbs.
We loaded up for a trip and I stopped by scales and the 5th wheel weighed 14,750.
Axles are 7,000 rating each for 14 000 pound total.
So I would figure I was overloaded, but the rig from factory is rated at 14,995 which seem over axle capacity. What am I missing? This seems a standard practice, so must be some logic.

You probably have about a 2000 pounds tongue weight, which gets subtracted from the axles. When not connected to the TV, that weight is sitting on the front landing gear.

Perfectly normal. As said, some of the weight I'd carried on the truck or landing gear.

Thanks all. That was my thinking but a Trucker Relative said I was wrong.
Imjustdave. Here are actual numbers from scale. Some might be confusing due to the way the scale
Was broken up.
5th wheel only: Steer Axle 4940#, Drive Axle 9800#, Total of 14,740#.
Truck, occupants, hitch, loaded for camping, and 5th wheel: Steer Axle 5280#, Drive Axle 7960#, trailer axle 11,140#, Total 24,380.

Hammer,
I'm having trouble getting my arms around your numbers.
Your first set "5th wheel only" reads like the axles are on the drive wheel pad and the landing gear are resting on the steer pad (as Mopar is asking).
The second set of numbers has 11,140# for the 5th's axles.
If I'm reading this correctly then I would expect the 9800# and 11,140# numbers to be the same or nearly so but they are different by 1340#.

Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe it was the way I was on the scales. I weighed everything, then I unhooked pulled truck forward and had them weigh the 5er as it sat. I didn't move the 5er from the first weighing. Maybe I was on the scales improperly.

I weigh the combo, go park the trailer and than weigh the truck. That way you can figure your pin weight. CAT scales will give you two passes for the fee.

The landing gear are father back than your pin (probably by at least 6 feet), so they'll carry more weight than the pin. As such, I would expect the axle weight to go up when hooked up. I'm not sure I expected it to be by that much, but it depends on how much weight is over the front. Remember, for every pound ahead of the landing gear, a pound is removed from the axle.

Beach, That didn't occur to me but you may be onto something here.
75% of the 14,740 is 11,055# which is pretty close to the 11,140# from the scale. (I'm assuming 25% pin weight).
