Added vinyl Floor planking

I have completed a vinyl plank install on our 2014 361REQS fifth wheel. The carpet came up fairly easy as it is just stapled down. I needed to cut against the walls and cabinets as they installed all the carpet first and then added walls and cabinets. They also wrapped the stairs in carpet then installed them. Had to take the stairs out to remove carpet. I assumed the vinyl in the kitchen and entry was glued at the edges. Mine was a total glue down. That was the hard part of the removal especially removing the glue and vinyl residue. I put down an underlayment that is like butcher paper I had left over from a hardwood floor I installed in my home. I am using a 5.5 mm plank floor from Lumber Liquidators. The only thing I had not considered is I am adding about 150 lbs of weight. [ATTACH][ATTACH][ATTACH]Click image for larger version

Looks nice. Question. Did you just lift the carpet and slide the planking under it? How did you re-fasten the carpet?

My DW wants that and how well does the slides work over it. My friend did the same thing and could not get his slides in.

That looks very nice! I’m planning to do the same upgrade. Any plans for the slides?

I'm curious too if it's possible to also swap out the slide carpet. My 361 has vinyl on the main level but carpet up the steps and in the bedroom. The vinyl is the fugly tile pattern though so I wouldn't mind changing out it. On my last RV I used a vinyl plank (Allure).

What was the weight of the carpet that came out? I'm not far off my GVWR when loaded up for travel so I wouldn't want to add much. I'd have to leave some beer behind then.

The carpet on the slides is the original. The carpet just slides over the floor as the slide closes.

The slides rooms run on a two different types of runners. The 2 large slides run on a continuous slide that lifts the room up about a 1/2 inch above the floor as it closes. The other two slides run on three short nylon rollers that lift the rooms up about 3/4 inch above the floor. If you have carpet on the floor now that the slide room closes over I don't see how that would work if the room wasn't elevated as it closes. The plank flooring is less than a 1/4" which is less than my old carpet and padding. I have schwenk slides in the kitchen which was over linoleum and it had the 3/4 " space. I brought my slides in a few inches before I started the project and measured how much room I had under the slide.

No plans for the slides at this time. They are still in good shape. If I did replace the carpet I would replace it with carpet. I haven't seen a transition that I
liked between the slides and where it butts up to the new hard floor using a hard floor in the slide room.

Leaving the beer behind would not be worth the swap. I put down around 150 sq feet of planking. About 200 lbs of vinyl I figured. I removed about 50 lbs of old vinyl and carpeting. I also thought of the weight addition but I figured it was spread out evenly across the RV and the main load was over the axles or behind. I also run near my GVRW but decided it is worth the weight.
