Adding a second battery

Going to add a second battery to my 5th wheel. I assume 12V Deep cycle size 24 and would connect the cables re to red and Black to Black. Correct

yes - red to red, black to black. That's "parallel" and will keep you at 12Vs.

Bear in mind the advice is to duplicate (or triplicate...) the exact battery you already have. Same size, same type, same AH, same everything. Optimally, they would even be the same age.

That's the *advice*.

If your battery is a couple years old or not holding a charge like it was when new adding a second battery the new one will de-rate itself to the level of the old one.

Agree with Bill, the system will only charge up to the weakest battery. You may not see the full potential of a new battery added to an old battery.

Bite the bullet, buy two, they should be the same age.

I think above advice has been spot on. Probably best to start with 2 brand new batteries.
