Adding a third A/C

Does anyone know if I can add a third AC to my NorthPoint 379DBFS? The bunk room and rear bathroom are unbearably hot for kids/guests.

It's not on the option list so probably not wired for it.

Magnolia Tom mounted a 3rd a/c unit in his NP 377. It "might" be doable, but you'd have to see what's up there.

Thanks. Didn’t think about looking there. I found a spot labeled optional 3rd AC on breaker panel but now that I think about it, it’s probably the same panel in most others.

Yep. If you have a vent, you “may” be able to add a third AC. It’ll depend on whether you have space in the breaker box (or can rewire to make space), whether you’re able to run the power and thermostat wires, and whether your confident in your abilities to take on the job. It’s one thing to add an ac that’s already prewired and pre-plumbed for it. It’s another thing when it’s not. It’s not that difficult but I’d say it’s for more experienced DIY people. Good luck! I was told by JAYCO when I asked about adding 3rd AC to my 383FKWS, that if the breaker is in the panel for optional 3rd AC, then the RV is wired for the 3rd AC. Dealer, says needs obviously another thermostat and mounting kit...just quoted me $1300 for the AC, $200 for thermostat, and $140 something for install kit, plus labor - $1950 total ... will definitely get another quote from another dealer, but Acs are short supply now days....at least the Coleman/Mach 8 that is on the RV now...

Is there a wire that is not connected? If so then it is probably pre-wired.

I will check when it gets back from being serviced. The “tech” told my service contact the unit was not pre-wired. I may get another opinion based on some other comment as we.

All you need to do is pull the trim ring from the ceiling vent to see if the wiring is there.

After full sun and 100 + temps this weekend I'm going to install the third AC....inside temps got up to 85

I'm looking at going with a non-ducted Mach 15 and with the ceiling assembly that dumps all the cold air from the unit directly in the room. My thoughts are...with two units running the ducts are already blowing pretty hard and with the third AC dumping straight to the room efficiency should be maximized from this unit. Also, the third unit only needs to run when the temp and sun are at the max. I wouldn't run it at night since it isn't need then...so I see the non-ducted aspect working for me.

I knew I should have gotten the third unit when I bought this trailer!

We don’t usually camp in temps like that. However, just a few weeks ago we pulled into Salina, heat soaked with a blazing sun and temps at 104. Both of my 15K AC’s are fully ducted, but the bedroom has the old style cover with the cold air dump. That AC is was able to produce cold air much quicker than the “whisper quiet” AC in the main area. Which ultimately helps the main living area AC. My theory is the return is getting that cooler air much faster when you have the dump functionality. Bedroom was livable in about 20 mins. Took just over an hour for everything to cool off. The noise is annoying but I think it’ll help you adding a third with the cold air dump.

We added a third A/C unit (15K Mach 8 heat pump) back in September. Haven't had hot weather to test it out but the heat pump works great. Looking forward to next summer to see how it works on those hot humid dog days of summer.

2nd Don't make the mistake of removing the wrong vent. I did. I accidentally removed the bathroom vent. I was getting on the roof from the passenger side of the 5th wheel. Probably went on and off the roof 12 times. Making sure everything fit around the solar panels. Just before I removed the vent, I moved the ladder to the driver side. Probably a little tired. Forgot everything flip around.

My installed turned out great.

did you trim the ceiling trim, or did the ceiling assembly go over the trim piece?

I did not cut the ceiling trim. I went over it. Looks good without trimming.
